Any free alternative to WORD?

I have Microsoft Works that has a word proceesor in it, but it's not compatible with sites that you need to upload a Word document such as a resume.

Is there a free alternative to Word that I can download?

I also have WordPerfect that says it's compatible, but it really isn't. It makes some funky changes.

Tried to go to Open Office here at work for our travel laptops but the Access analogue just doesn't work with our old .mdb files for some reason. But for Word and Excel functionality I'm all over it and I usually view open source software like the e-bola virus.

why?

edit: if I were you I'd avoid Access like the e-bola virus. ;)

I don't like the fact that if some software tool that one of my techs downloaded hoses my network there is no one to sue. Just a total lack of trust in it in a business environment.

I'm less opposed to it on people personal computers, but I want software that comes from a vendor that has a real support staff for the environment that pays my mortgage. Ive been to too many wikis for open source that read like this place does.

Well sys admins always hate open source, there's no one to yell at. :)

Open source nerd fight! *Gets popcorn* :lurk5:

Trust me, I never argue open source with someone who has to deal with non-techies. As a developer I LOVE open source, but you can't argue with lack of good support(even if it is costly it usually pays for itself).

    • I thought he was from watching him play and also doing his first HC job. I thought he was the real deal  Apparently what happened is Kraft committed to Mayo and I don’t remember the timeline exactly - but Vrabel was unemployed at the same time Belichick was unemployed. They both were fired after the 2023 season.  Kraft hired Mayo. Who was kind of an obvious disaster. He probably already had the deal in place but I will give Kraft credit for not sleeping. With Vrabel out there for 2025 he made the move he needed to make and if it hurt Mayo’s feelings then oh well.  I guess you can tell I am not fond of Kraft but that was a really savvy move. At his age, pretty good. Still has it.
    • It’s going to feel like a home game for the bills. There are so many of their fans that live down here now, and many of them have never seen Allen play in person since their last visit was 8 years ago. It didn’t matter for the cowboys game, but it might here. I think we likely lose a close one. Probably a questionable flag or two that doesn’t go our way. X factor for Buffalo will be Kincaid and Knox. If we do win it’s because we get ahead and play keep away from Allen. FYI- I have many friends who are Bills fans that are fed up with Beane who we all revere and think is the one that got away. They feel like he was great to land Josh but has done a terrible job of building around him (especially at WR) and rely on him to become super man to win- sounds kind of familiar, like the last time we had a franchise QB.
    • I always thought of him as an uptight military family dude, didn't know he needs to wash that mouth out with soap lol.
