Cam Newton looking better and better!

He has tremendous strength but his accuracy and decision making are still major concerns. His footwork troubles me. Overall, I don't think he is worth a high first round pick, but I expect someone will take a risk on him. With luck and a whole heck of a lot of hard work, he'll prove the doubters wrong and do well.

i agree, honestly, i dont think he will suck or isnt a 1st rounder, he is. i just wouldnt start him in his rookie year and i do not think he's a number one overall pick.

Seriously people. Stop with the stat posting and BS.

Stats don't mean a ton to NFL scouts. They're looking for a guy with transferable skills. What has Cam Newton done at Auburn that translates to the NFL? He plays almost exclusively out of the shotgun. He plays in a gimmick spread option type offense. He usually makes one read, maybe two then tucks and runs. His threat to run the ball is really what opens up his passing. How many times do you see him thread the needle or throw a guy open? Hardly ever.

He's simply shown very little at the college level that translates to the NFL in terms of skills. What he has shown is talent. He has ideal size. He has a great arm. He's a great athlete. If you draft him, you're drafting him as a pure project. IMO, you don't draft him in the 1st round. No way.

There's a reason why no one with any clout is talking about him as the potential #1 overall pick. He's simply not in the discussion. At all. The discussion isn't whether he'll go #1 at all, but whether or not he'll even go in the 1st round.

I don't primarily look at stats either, and yea he had some bad throws, but he bounced back when it was needed and got the job done. What more can you ask?

I can ask for him to actually scan the field for more than one read. I can ask him to hang in the pocket, and not bolt if his first read is covered. I can ask him to actually throw the ball accurately in tight windows. Oh yeah, and I can ask him to protect the ball... that is, if I want to take him high in the first, but I understand that I am not the decision maker here. I realize that if he did some of the things I asked it just wouldn't be Auburn's offense anymore, but still.

You could say Cam was the only reason Auburn ran so well, but I'd say Auburn's running game was the main reason Cam put up impressive stats through the air. It wasn't as if Oregon was running huge numbers of defensive backs and keeping their safeties back all night to stop the Auburn air attack.

Don't get me wrong, he was an impressive player tonight and he looked as he had all year... which is a great athlete that was completely head and shoulders above his competitors physically. My concern is that he won't be able to do that in the NFL.

Cam slurpers, I'm sorry but you are wrong. Not worthy of the number 1 pick, if anyone was tonight, it was nick fairley. The "reads" you think you saw were not, they were fakes to one direction to set up the pass on the other side, designed for the specific play. great offense run by a great COLLEGE QB. his skills will not relate well to the NFL.

And that's why they play the game. There's no telling until you see them in the NFL if they are gonna bust or be a steal. Goes for everyone, especially the QB's, since they are the most scrutinized position in football.

That is true, and I wish him well. I just didn't see evidence that he would succeed at the next level tonight or much this year... but he could still work through it with hard work, so I wish him well.

Some of you are full of poo if you think he threw to his first read on every play. There were a few plays where he went to the 2nd and 3rd reads after scanning the whole field.

Also, if the first read is open, it's a good decision to throw to him, believe it or not.

If you're seriously touting Tyrod Taylor as an NFL QB prospect, that tells me all I need to know.

Im 100% against the Cam movement. But Tyrod Taylor could actually be a late round QB draft. That if couched up on could be a decent QB.

He actually throws a tigh spiral. Has a cannon for a arm and can move. He sucks on play action, reading the D, and leading a pass.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
