Last team to have the #1 pick two years in a row?

It was the 1999 (QB Tim Couch) and 2000 (DE Courtney Brown) Cleveland Browns. They were in their first and second year of "new" existence, so it was understandable. Before that it was the 1994 (DT Dan Wilkinson) and 1995 (HB Ki-Jana Carter) Cincinnati Bengals.

If the Panthers achieve this feat two years in a row, regardless of drafting Andrew Luck in 2012 (can't believe I'm still talking about him), what would this say about the franchise?

Could you endure the embarrassment of having a franchise draft #1 overall two years in a row, if you knew you had a shot at the next "Peyton Manning"???

I can't believe anyone is actually deciding that we are picking #1 next year when we have only just finished this season.

Honestly this makes more of a reflection on your over reaction to this season, because only someone completely missing the point would assume one season would indicate the next.

the bengals actually traded up from the fifth pick with us to grab the first overall in 1995

    • I enjoyed reading this thread and the usual banter that follows. The only silver lining I can identify right now is we do actually have a couple of young QB's behind him and we do have a nice roster on both sides of the ball built around the most important position. So if the team overall shows some promise but we still falter largely due to a lack of consistent passing output (again) hopefully the decision makers can be free to make the best decision for the team going forward after the conclusion of this upcoming season.
    • I don't really follow the team anymore due to a variety of reasons and consequently have largely stopped posting but I agree that this is a lovely website and community. This forum probably kept me around for years longer than I would've stuck otherwise because of how difficult it was to stop checking multiple times a day. Especially appreciate how lax the moderation tends to be compared to a lot of places, the crew here does a great job. Out of curiousity I decided to try making a new account (solely for testing purposes) to see what exactly is wrong with the sign up process. The issue seems to be that it never sends you an account verification email, thus making it impossible to complete registration. This is likely something to do with the email server upstream, hope it gets fixed. Also, lol
    • Uh oh, Nicole Tepper hugged him. In all seriousness though every time I see more about him my hopes get higher. Smart, great attitude, prototype size and measurables, and athletic. He could be a great one.
