Assistant Coach Options

Gantt writes that Rivera's first choice for an OC would be Chudzinski, but he's currently interviewing elsewhere.

Regarding Greg Manusky, Jim Trotter (SI) implies that after meeting with Jim harbaugh, Manusky got the message loud and clear that he wouldn't be retained. He looks to be a popular DC choice - multiple interviews scheduled - so I don't expect him to land here.

good for him. My feeling would be that Ryan is a better choice.

Permission means hope, most teams don't give permission. OTOH, I don't know if Chudzinski is exactly the hottest name. He's an upgrade either way.

I'd prefer Ryan on defense too. Gotta believe he and Rivera would have similar defensive philosophies going back to papa Buddy.

(plus there's the entertainment value)

As a side note, if they add Rob Ryan as DC and Bryan Cox as a DL Coach, the profanity level at training camp will likely go back up to where it was in the Sal Sunseri days.

(lots of parents on the sidelines hearing "daddy, what's that word mean?")

I would love to have Rob Ryan.

I feel the need for a great offensive cordinator, I hope we can find gold on who ever we pick. Another important coach for us will be QB coach, we need a QB coach that can help out Clausen.

Rip Scherer was an horrible coach. He ruined Delhomme, couldn't coach Moore or Clausen this year and wasn't successful with the Browns. I am really hopeful in finding a good qb coach. We need someone to teach Clausen and Pike to be a consistent NFL Qb.

I wonder if Jeremiah Trotter has any interest in coaching.

He was one of the linebackers Rivera coached in Philly (from 99-01) and was a very smart player. he's been out of football for a couple of years. Started some business ventures but, if I read right, they didn't go very well.

Rivera did something else for a couple of years between his playing career and coaching career too.
