If We Don't Go QB in the 1st Round, Who is Your QB?

Vince Young would be a great choice. He's a talented QB and he needs a new start. This team would be a realistic option for him to come in and start right away.

agreed! some people on this forum dount seem to like young because of his attitude they just want more of the same like another year clausen hoping he'll develope i sick of the bull s**t.richardson said we need to open the offence and i thnk we need a vince young or a vick that would bring so excitment to the fans.no more clausen or moore.we need some attitude in carolina.

agreed.

By the way you changed the context of my post you seem to be saying that Alex Smith should not be an option. I for one think he is a cheap viable option in FA. Orton, Young, Kolb would cost us valuable draft picks or players. Smith has started in the league for 54 games. I just would much rather use our free agency money on Nnamdi Asomugha and Barry Cofield. We add those two and AJ Green with the first and we could be going from worst to first.

Let's just draft a rookie QB ever season for the next 10 seasons

New coaches New Ideas

Need a lot of new players to blend in with all of last 2 seasons rookies

I'm for best F/A vet QB and /or a trade for a Vet

Now Clausen , Pike and all the other QB's can watch and learn at their pace

No Drafted QB is coming in 1st season and lighting it up

Tyrod Taylor you got to be joking! name a duel threat qb that has won a Superbowl the last 10 years? the answer is no one! all you panther fans want young, newton, and now tyrod taylor if you watch football ever you would know none of these guys would work for long term. well good luck to all these pipe dreams but it will never happen.

Another thing all of you fail to realize not all rookie qbs have success the only reason Bradford had great success in his first year because he was playing in the junior NFL league known as the NFC West. on the other hand jimmy clausen had no oline, wrs, or play calling thanks "Davidson" in the NFC South hardest division in the NFl... so slow you roll panther fans and give things time to develop.

The only rookie QB I can think of that was even close to as miserable as Jimmy to have turned around their career to be something great may have been Aikman (and I don't recall if he showed promise or not early)...

Clausen wasn't just lacking in success, he was lacking in everything that matters at the position.

I can't think of but like...one person who is touting Tyrod Taylor as someone we should be seriously considering....

so alex smith wins us MAYBE 4 more games than clausen and then we replace him the next year?

what's the point?

f*cking david carr all over again.

I don't think you have really watched many games of Smith. Lets look at the other options who could start from day one.

VY = a has been. Will never be as good as he was at Texas. If Bud is fed up with his crap why would we want him.

McNabb = I question his cardiovascular conditioning. Not really but i do question his ability outside of Andy Reids offense.

I look at the rest of the options and see backups and scrapped projects. Clemons, Tavaris Jackson, and the like are not viable options. We need a stop gap with some youth that can play for 2-3 years then hand the reigns over to Jimmy when he is ready. Speaking of David Carr if we had not knocked Alex Smith out of that game we would have added yet another LOSS to the record. Smith can win in this league. VY and McNabb are headcases.

    • Derrick Brown was one player I never called or even suggested was a bust . Dude was young and hadn't even hit his stride. It takes time to learn the position. The thing I appreciated about him is that he kept improving season after season. He got paid and keeps on going like the Energizer Bunny.
    • How many teams coddle their QB the way Bryce has been coddled? I have never seen any other team in the NFL EVER baby a QB the way that Bryce has been.  Bryce was named day 1 starter his first year. It was obvious he didnt deserve it. He wasnt ready as evidenced by the worst rookie year in NFL history.  So let's move to year 2. He's named starter again with no competition in TC and is benched 2 games later. We have the ghost of a backup in Dalton who is so bad he can only beat Vegas and let's remember, the only reason he lost his starting job was a car accident, not because Bryce actually beat him out in practice.  And year 3. We sign Dalton again, who already proved he couldn't be depended on to put an even remotely passable performance on the field, and bring back Jack Plummer, who was even worse than last year. It was obvious he was nothing more than a pretend body in an attempt to create an illusion of some type of attempt to find a backup.  Then we start again with garbage play again and Bryce gets benched with a phantom injury, and the ghost of the ghost of Dalton breaks his thumb on the first drive and craps the field all over again. If we had actually made an attempt to find a legitimate QB2, it's possible Bryce doesn't step on the field again. Bryce is not agood QB and if we had any other mediocre QB, our record would be the same or better.  Bryce is not entrenched. He's been placed, protected and sheltered from ever having to face a  real QB competition in TC. Richardson and Levis both were ass and both were benched and eventually replaced.  Do I expect Baker to face competition in camp? Sure. I expect Tampa to find the best QB2 they can at price that fits their cap and resources and system and get him up to speed. If he's better than Baker, and if he's better by a significant margin, that's best for the team. The ultimate goal is a Super Bowl. Bellichek was constantly getting QB2s with the GOAT as his starter. He knew the value and that was realized when Cassell led them to an 11-5 record as a backup.  You and I may think differently than the people that matter but I will say it again. If you're afraid to bring in a capable backup, especially after the debacle of last year. The starting role wasn't earned, it was given, and that's loser mentality.
    • I would have done the same thing.  LSU is a much better job than Ole Miss.  Plus the enormous contract and every advantage a college team can offer in terms of recruiting and facilities and tradition etc
