Because its homers like you that irritate me almost as much as opposing fans.

Fitz came into the NFL in 2004 - 6975 yds and 46 TD's

Smith came into the NFL in 2001 - 7348 yds and 43 TD's

Again Smith broke his leg in 04. Came into the league as a punt returner. Still Smith beats him yards and barely edged in TDs.

I'd love to see them both in Panther uniforms. That said, they're both the products of the systems the play in. I think it would be interesting to see us adopt some of the characteristics of the Cards passing attack, especially as they employed it aganst us, when they were missing Bolden. They let Fitz improvise and find his own open areas, at least in the first half. Watching the game afterwards, Warner seemed to focus on him and him alone much of the time, waiting for him to get open. Which he did most of that time. finding the seams in the zones.

They're both great though. No team will be the worst for having them. Fitz is a faster version of Moose, a big, strong, phsyical player who can go up in multiple coverage and win the ball, and unlike Moose, a true game breaker. He maximizes his potential in an offensive scheme like the Cards. Smith would no doubt have big numbers with them as well.

Some people never learn.......

I'm willing to bet a thread like this was made last year but comparing Randy Moss to Smith.

The fact remains that Fitzgerald is a good receiver, but right now he is greatly inflated. Was there anyone claiming Fitz was the best receiver in the game back when he had almost the exact same season last year? Or even before that.

All eyes are on Fitzgerald cause he just tore up the postseason. 166 of those yards shouldn't even count considering they came against a beyond incompetent coaching staff. Like beating a midget in basketball.

Next year he'll have another good season, but some other receiver will have a break out year and a thread like this will pop up again.

I'm betting the Cardinals fade back into obscurity next year.

As for Smith vs Fitz.....

You can't compare the 2. Fitzgerald has a good QB in Warner, and another good receiver in Boldin. You know what that means? No double teams. Smith has a subpar QB in Delhomme, and faces double and triple teams every play in a run first offense. Despite all this Smith still dominates. Just imagine how good Smith could be on the Colts or even the Cardinals. Really any team that is smart enough to get him the ball 10 times a game in space.

And I won't mention the Steve Breaston or Anquan Boldin effect. I'd take Fitz over Smith straight up right now and wouldn't think twice. Like I've said before, his hands and body control are bar none the best in the league. And the next reciever is a distant second.

there is no hope.

Larry Fitzgerald will go down as one of the best ever...I just see the Cards locking him up long term and then Kurt Warner retires leaving them w/ no capable quarterback...and then where does that leave Fitzgerald?

#89 = #2

Fitzgerald has performed year in and year out with Multiple QBs at the helm during his tenure. Where does that leave Fitzgerald? We've had that answer since before Warner was the starter.

    • I wonder if the Hornets view Kon and McNeeley more as forwards and plan to ship off Green/Okogie/Smith for center help. I hope they don’t plan to ship off Sexton as I like what he brings to the team. (2) G - Ball, Mann, Simpson (two-way) (3) G - Sexton, Dinwiddie, Connaughton (3) F - Miller, Knueppel, McNeeley, James (two-way) (3) F - Bridges, Williams, Salaun (3) C - Diabate, Kalkbrenner, Plumlee
    • 3 main reasons he was better in 2023 and none of them concern me for his NFL prospects 1. Totally new coaching staff that was a massive downgrade and had god awful play calling and designs, the entire fan base was ready to run the coaching staff out of town a month into their first season and the play caller ended up getting changed because it was so bad. 2. Along with the staff downgrade, his QB played significantly worse after being the Pac 12 Freshman of the Year in 2023.  Constantly missed T-Mac when he was wide open, lost out on a number of TDs and a good amount of yardage, half the time T-Mac still almost made miraculous catches on the bad passes too. 3. He hurt his ankle over the summer and missed all of fall camp only to return to practice a few days before the season started and I think he had to deal with it all season long and was slightly limping at times mid season too, but kept fighting through it to still be a 1st team All American.
    • Good luck to Burns. He’s fine as a third pairing defensemen but Rod is too stubborn to do that.
