We have an Offensive QC too (Scott Turner).

That's right, so I guess there was a lack of a label for Proehl. As I stated in the other coaches thread, without prior coaching experience, I guess it would be a nod to heirarchy of promotion in the coaching ranks. With a Turner named QC, they wouldn't give Ricky a "coaching" title. I have to think that may have been what the hold up has been since his interview last week...that being finding a niche for Proehl even though we all knew he'd be working with the wideouts.

Any possibility the open slots we have left are meant for coaches from the superbowl teams? These would be the options

From Packers:

Kevin Greene -Currently OLB Coach- (not sure who they have coaching ILB's)

Edgar Bennett (currently RB Coach)

and three S+C coaches

Mark Lovat - Strength & Conditioning Coordinator

Dave Redding - Assistant Strength & Conditioning

Thadeus Jackson - Strength & Conditioning Assistant

From Steelers

Kirby Wilson - Running Backs Coach

Jerry Olsavsky - Defensive Assistant (not sure of responsibilities)

Keith Butler - LB Coach

Garrett Giemont - S+C "Coordinator"

Not sure how some of these coaches would transition to Rivera's defense but I would pull for Kevin Greene for obvious reasons.

Olsavsky was a defensive lineman (and in a 3-4).

All of Greene's work is in 3-4 systems. I don't see him as a fit here. Same with Butler, who's expected to be Dick LeBeau's successor anyway.

Edgar Bennett and Ron Rivera worked together one year and played against each other for several.

I still think Dave McGinnis or Bill Shuey gets the LB Coaching job.

Since Rivera has stated he wants to install some 3-4 variations into this defense it would make sense to have a "Kevin Greene" type coach who can assist in both styles. The main problem I see with Greene is that he is too advanced to give him a Proehl type job with us. If we did hire him we would need someone else who is a pure LB coach and he is too far up the coaching ladder to be an assistant.

Looks like that may not be the case

    • Names I'd keep an eye on... Coby White,  Jalen Suggs, Amen Thompson  and Stephen Castle...  3 teams except Orlando has checked on Melo before and rumblings of sours getting rid of fox too. I'd think they think Melo and Wemby would make them nuclear out west.
    • Well he somehow had 12 preseason carries for not playing. He also has 20 carries in the regular season, not three. He has actually played in about 7% of the offensive snaps for this regular season(33% of the special teams snaps). This isn't stuff you have to make up, these are very easily referenced statistics, man.
    • It's not common for a RB to recover from two ACL tears in the same knee. It's fairly rare. You are correct that it isn't the career ender that it used to be but there is also the fact that we appear to have largely moved on with the additions of Dowdle and Etienne.  Dobbins is a very good example. He has basically missed 54% of his career regular season games since he came into the league in 2020. It will end up being 57% at the conclusion of this season. It's a big contributing factor to why he is on this third NFL team in 6 years. It's certainly possible that may be 4 by the beginning of next season. I would say there is very little chance that Brooks ever contributes in any meaningful way in Carolina. Possibly with another team but I am extremely skeptical of his future here because of those injuries and because of the roster.
