CBA News: Can Owners Get New CBA Without Players Approval?

Doctors, Lawyers and Architects work 4-8 years in graduate school to earn their creditials. Meaning the only thing that separates many of us from being a doctor, lawyer or architect is 4-8 more years of school, yet I know very few people who would argue that they deserve their salary due to the work that they put in to obtain their creditials. I understand that being a doctor, lawyer and architect is not easy and competition is tough and that's why we respect those positions and believe they have earned their salaries.

So, think of this. NFL players start training from age 6. They work 14 years to reach the NFL. 1 out of 5 kids make their highschool football team in most FL schools and of those that make it a third of those drop football after their freshman year. Only 1-5 players on a FL highschool football team play college ball, meaning only 1-6% of the highschool players play college ball. Only 1 out of 1000 college players make it to the NFL. So, if you are talented enough to make it, lucky enough to survive injury and smart enough to keep yourself out of trouble on the way, then you may become an NFL player, its as though the perfect storm must take place. If you have 100,000 6 year old football players, only 1 of them will make it to the NFL.

The NFL revenues are enormous. We watch the NFL to see the players and coaches perform and win. I have never turned on the TV and wanted to watch an NFL owner do anything other than spend money on the best product on the market. It's their job to do this as an NFL owner. They owe this to the fans. I feel no compassion for an owner, because they knew what they were investing in when they invested.

Why is it people want to hold the NFL players salary against them? If you had a clue what it takes to become a player and had the skills to do it, then you would have done it. These guys deserve their salaries and to ask them to take an 18% pay cut and work 11% more per season, when the owners TV revenues are locked in is PURE greed by the owners.

If the CBA is forced through, then the players have no choice but to strike. It's the way it works.

That old arguement is pure bullshit. If you canned all of the NFL players right now and got guys that weren't 'Pro level' out there, I gurantee in 3 years you wouldn't tell a difference in the play on the field.

It is past time for the owners to step in and quit letting the EMPLOYEES run the business. 18% paycut? Oh go cry me a river. So you make 820k vs a million? WAAAAH!

Make em strike

it baffles me how anyone could consider the players the bad guy in this, when the owners are the ones who opted out of the CBA. the players are ready to play. they don't want to change anything. it's the owners making stupid f**king pie charts and mumbling about how they need to take 20% of players salaries for themselves. oh, and maybe another billion off the top.

Why do you think owners have to get new, more expensive stadiums? To pay the stupid assed salaries the players are making. Who takes it in the ass? the FANS.

F*ck the players. Don't like the pay, go WORK for a friggin living.

Exactly. The owners could replace all the current players PERMANENTLY and hire replacements and in a couple of years nobody would care. The players big problem is that fans are team loyal, not player loyal. Replace last years 53 with a new 53 and fans will still come out. Maybe not quite as many but certainly enough to pay for the new players reduced salaries. Teams turn over every 3-4 years now anyway so fans are already used to this phenomenon. The current players go away and new ones come in. The players think they run things but they are relatively irrelevant in the bigger picture. The NFL isn't the NBA.

Richardson's proved you wrong this year and he only played with 8 SCABs (2-14 and worst product I've ever watched including the 1-15 season), imagine how fun it will be when the entire team is a SCAB......

you're full of sour grapes.....but you're sour grapes are directed at the wrong people......the owners are the ones who are screwing this up.

stadiums are tax payer subsidized.

I don't know how it will all shake down, but I believe that if taxpayers subsidize a team in any way, a fan lottery should be mandated. All interested citizens of the city in question would be eligible to win a ticket to a home game if his or her name is drawn.

The larger the taxpayer contribution, the more tickets available in the lottery. If my tax dollars help millionaires earn/save more money, I should have some recourse!

Look around people. What other industry pays there employees this kind of revenue sharing? There isn't one that comes close (other then other pro sports. Yes they do start training at an early age but who cares there playing a freaking game. Doctors literally are responsible for life or death situations every day where one slip up could kill someone and most don't make league (rookie) minimum.

Teachers in this country are actually getting there salaries cut right now and most were lucky to make 30k a year as it was and these are the people molding America's youth. Sorry but I don't give a crap if it does go into owners pocket that is the way it is supposed to be in this country. The people who invest there hard earned money into a company should be entitled to its profits not those who work for them.

Yeah sure a player might get injured and never be able to play again well so what welcome to the real world it sucks. You think I like being unemployed after working my a$$ off for some company? I can not feel sorry for people making millions of dollars playing a game that most of us played for free.
