Gabbert On The Radar?

I agree, doesn't make much if any sense how some kid running a college spread offense and only threw for 16 TD's with 9 Int's is the best QB in the draft... but we'll leave it up to the scouts...

there's a quote from his coaching staff some place about how when they decided to dedicate the team to running the football since they could shorten the football game that way due to the defense, Gabbert was right on board. He proclaimed he had 10 perfect games and 2 bad ones, because his team went 10-2.

His stats have some good points that people ignore because they focus too much on the TD/Int ratio, but ultimately, stats in college mean nothing.

At this point I don't imagine us taking him but I think he could be a good quarterback. It'd be stupid not to look at him, though, considering the potential value of a quarterback upgrade.

I would be surprised if we didn't look at a slew of top quarterback prospects, really.

Others have said the same of Locker, especially in the later days once he settled down. However it's not universal... so who knows. I don't see us being in a position to consider Locker, though. Will be interesting to see him in the Senior Bowl itself

edit: here's a little bit on Kaepernick: http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/41315545/ns/sports-player_news/ and the same guy (rather damning and quite extreme) on Locker: http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/41315392/sports/player_news

I read an article about him throwing a baseball 95mph. I also seem to remember something about a pro baseball team wanting him. I know that's baseball but it show's he's got plenty of arm. In the article you posted mav it read's out of the six QB's "it's not even close." "It's like watching Nolan Ryan." He could be worth a look, just maybe?

I doubt he'd be worth taking #1 overall but I think the team needs to keep it's eyes open as far as prospects go across all positions. I think the likelihood of us trading into the 2nd is very very high, and there are a decent number of players who will be available there that should get looks.

edit: So I've only seen Kaepernick play maybe a half dozen times in his career so I'm not super qualified to weigh in on him but I didn't love what I saw about him... but what I saw about him is nothing like what they are reporting about him in the Senior Bowl. Admittedly the only game I really watched closely of him this year was against Boise State, where he played his heart out and I loved the game but didn't come away thinking "Awesome NFL Prospect at QB."

I may have been wrong though. Looking forward to seeing him in the Senior Bowl and I'll put in some more effort to find stuff from him if I can.

I don't have all the answers.

I like a number of the QBs in this draft, but I don't know about their value compared to our picks.

I am not really in love with Pike. Jimmy will be here next year either way. Ideally I would like to go into camp with 2 veterans, Jimmy, and another development project, either Pike or a rookie. The thing is, if we do pick up a high round draft pick, it cramps down on roster spots pretty heavy.

You know how I feel on this.

guess i would have to rewatch the tape because his stats do not show 10 perfect games by any stretch of the imagination

that's the point. he doesn't care about his personal stats, he only cares if they win. obviously he knows he didn't play well in every game. :) It was more meant to illustrate how he felt about his stats when people asked them about them I think, and a reflection of buying into the gameplan that his coaches established.
