n4s720's Mock Draft, 1.0

I'm going to throw my hat in the fan-made mock draft arena. I'm going to pretend to do any trades/free agent signings. I'm just going to focus on the picks that we have (or most likely will have, i.e. compensatory)

Sooooo, here we go.

Round 1, 1st overall:

Patrick Peterson, CB, Louisiana State University

Easy now, before you freak out and say "WE NEED A DT!!!!!111one!!1 NICK FAIRELY!!!!!!!!111one" here me out.

Since when has Hurney and our front office draft purely for need with our first pick? Its always vaguely a need, and normally one of, or the best player available. Depending on how the combine goes, Peterson could be the best pick at this junction. From what I've read. the type of defense Rivera runs is based on confusion, normally through blitzes. I'd like to have two good cover corners left one on one with a receiver. That could be Gamble, but definitely is not Marshall. Peterson also makes since in the fact that we have not had a great kick returner in god knows when. He'd be in instant upgrade in two facets of the game.

Round 3, First pick:

Sione Fua, DT, Stanford University

Again, not a sexy pick. Lets face it, this may be bias, but I don't trust defensive linemen drafted out of Clemson University. The great many over the last few years have been busts. Mr. Fua here I think is an interesting prospect. He'd fit in perfectly as a space eater, 1-technique lineman. He played a 3-4 NT at Stanford, but I think he'd fit in fine in our 4-3. He was very disruptive at times and was great against the run.

Round 3, Second pick (Compensatory)

D.J. Williams, TE, Arkansas

Mr. Rivera said it himself, he wants a do it all tight end. I'm pretty sure one of our trio of TEs will not be resigned this off season, so why not bring in a young stud? Williams excelled catching the pass at Arkansas racking up 1,831 yards and 10 touchdowns. With some good coaching, I think he could be a nice weapon in the passing game.

Round 4, Pick 1

Lee Ziemba, OG, Auburn

Mr. Dependble. Ziemba had a ridiculous number of consecutive starts at Auburn. He is a mauler in the run game and decent in pass protection. He's very flexible, able to play both guard and tackle. Also, lets face it, our lack of quality depth showed last year at guard.

Round 5, Pick 1

Mark Herzlich, LB, Boston College

Considered a high first round pick before his bout with bone cancer, he bounced back after whipping cancer and had a decent year. Some say he's lost a step in coverage, and wasn't quite the same, but he's a terrific leader and has a real nose for the ball. With the injuries at LB last year, we were real exposed in our depth.

Round 6, Pick 1

Ryan Winterswyk, DE, Boise State

Coming from a smaller school, with supposedly "lesser competition," Winterswyck put up some solid numbers while part of an outstanding defense. He has also posted consecutive seasons on the all WAC defense. He has a great motor and is good against the run.

I like your picks, how ever our offense was one of the worst in the NFL and you didn't pick an offensive player until the 3rd round? I love the players you picked but I don't think the meet our needs.

I didn't see any good offensive players in our range that we really needed without reaching. I'm going to address this in my 2.0 mock.

Nice picks

Round 1 pick one A.J. Green, WR, Georgia I would also except Da'Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson or Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU

Round 3 pick one Luke Stocker, TE, Tennessee (at 6'2" D.J. Williams is to short for a TE)

Round 3 (Compensatory) pick Marvin Austin, DT, North Carolina

Round 4 pick one Casey Matthews, LB, Oregon

Round 5 pick one Mark Herzlich, LB, Boston College (I am rooting for this guy)

Round 6 pick one Ryan Winterswyk, DE, Boise State

I saw no reason to mess with your last 2 picks
