Advice?

So here's the deal... tl, but please read...

We had our son this past September, as most of you know...

Wifey goes back to work in November... then starts getting the blues at the beginning this year about being away from sonny boy all day...

There's a good bit of drama going on at her office also, and it is adding stress to her (as it has done at different times since she's been there, even before our son was born)... Just earlier this week, she basically had a breakdown up there over some goings on and all that crap at the office... She walked out 5 minutes early and basically told one of her supervisors that she'd be bringing her two weeks notice with her the next day...

She typed it out, but was talked out of it temporarily by two of her other supervisors... She told them that she would give them a month's notice instead, but that if some things changed she might be willing to change her mind...

So today, the main boss calls a meeting, and circulates amongst all employees a form for anyone who wants to potentially accept a severance package (this is a state job, too... just so you all know if you work for the state that it might be coming soon to your workplace too)... The preliminary paperwork seems to indicate that if you apply, they will look over your paperwork and basically give you an offer to leave the job...

Remember, this is unrelated to the incident earlier this week, but the timing is rather convenient...

Anyways, the way it sounds, they are willing to give anyone that leaves their job:

8 months salary

1 year of health coverage

pay for any unused leave

The kicker is that the preliminary paperwork has to be returned tomorrow, and if you go through the whole process, your last day of work will be the 28th...

SO... Here is where I need you opinions...

What should we do?

I have been telling her for the longest time to go ahead and quit, and that we can survive with her working part-time somewhere... or go back to school part-time...

BUT, I don't know how long exactly we could survive... We have enough money in savings that we could probably not even notice the difference all that much for a couple years even, but if she takes this deal, she'll have to be added to my insurance (another $300 or so out of my check every month) and our household income will take a monthly hit depending on what she does for part-time work, if anything...

My job isn't all that high paying or anything, but I feel like it is pretty secure and that I will at least be coming into a $4000 or so annual raise in the next year or so...

I'll reserve my opinion until I get a few of you folks' views...

Thanks in advance!

more to life than money!

take the package...give her a couple months of peace and quiet and then hope she can find a job somewhere that she will be happier...and hopefully gets over the need to stay home. If not, you're going to need to figure out a way to make ends meet on what you've got.

Happy wife = happy life.

not every place will give that kind of sev pkg. take the money and run. you might take it on the chin financially at some point, but the benefit of her being with your son more and the lack of drama will pay great dividends.

we did that for both kids. wife stayed at home as much as she could then worked PT later. sure it was tough money wise but our family grew tighter from it and so what if others got more stuff. i even turned down potential lucrative jobs in stocks etc, so i could be home in a jif and see my kids actually grow up. no regrets at all.

quality of life man, that's worth more than gold

Cant say anything that hasnt ready been said.. Family first, career second.. If you arent happy doin it, then why do it? In the long run she, and you for that matter, will be much better off with her being with your boy instead of stressing all day, every day. It is not healthy at all...

She loves her job... just not all of the employees up there (same deal as every job... some slackers, some a-holes, etc.)...

She's filling out the application for the estimate now... She'll fax it tomorrow first thing, and they will contact her with the estimated package numbers if she is approved...

Thanks again all... I may be a douche at times to some of you, but I do really appreciate all of you for threads and opinions such as this...

    • Jake in his prime was a gutsy QB. But just like with even someone like Cam. Father time is undefeated. It's very unfortunate we have a guy who is only 24 years old that has an equivalent arm to that. Absolutely blows my mind that our brain trust lacked the basic common sense to value arm talent when making a massive trade with ramifications for years to come. Unforgivable incompetence.
    • Jake, to me, will always hold a special place in my heart.  I really feel like for his era, he deserved way more love than he got, and should’ve had more than his one Pro Bowl.  He was a gamer with an underrated rocket arm. but let me tell you, after his Tommy John surgery, when he came back, I can’t remember who it was against, but it think it was a division game, he threw a ball that was supposed to be a throw away, as I think he was under pressure, and that poo floated forever and died right at the boundary where a defender ran over and picked it off.  One of the worst throws I ever saw.  His arm just wasn’t the same after the injury and surgery.  All that to say, that’s what almost every Bryce throw to the sidelines looks like to me.
    • And again, when watching him in college he had one distinct trait that I feel makes a franchise QB - on those plays when everything breaks down around him, he creates one on his own.  He doesn’t rely on or need everyone else.  That play last night on the final drive where he was getting sacked and threw it to Diggs before his knee hit the ground?  He does similar things all the time.  Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, etc., they all do it.  It’s what made Cam so special. but we picked a guy that’s the opposite of that.  He desperately needs someone else to make a play for him because he can’t.  Even that play yesterday on 4th down to Horn.  That wasn’t a great pass.  The defender was late and came down to make a play in the ball and Bryce threw it high and outside where Horn had to leave his feet and really use strong hands to catch it.  We relied on a 5’9” rookie playing in his first pro game to make THAT catch at THAT time bc of the early turnovers and a not great throw.  Crazy.
