Model of decision making for the draft

1. Is there a franchise QB in the draft? If yes, take him, if not, go to 2.

2. Does Nick Fairley (or any other DT really) have a good chance of being a productive player as a Carolina Panther? If yes, take him, if not go to 3.

3. BPA (Peterson imo).

Agree/disagree? If you agree, how would you answer these questions?

The bottom line is that this draft blows and we need to try like hell to trade out of this spot to someone that falls in love with Bowers or Fairley. Best case scenario is that they absolutely destroy the combine and a team is out there that thinks either of those two guys puts their team over the top. We trade down and take BPA for the position we are in. Taking anyone #1 in this draft for us is a no win situation. Sure we get a good player but we are getting a player that in most drafts is the 3rd or 4th best player. Think about it..

Nick Fairley probably isn't any better coming out of college than Glenn Dorsey or Sedrick Ellis a few years ago. Yet he is projected #1.

Bowers is no better than what Gaines Adams was. The guy isn't Mario Williams or Julius Peppers. He is a really good defensive end but he doesn't have freak size or athleticism that warrants #1.

Patrick Peterson is ACTUALLY probably the best player. He could be Darrelle Revis special but who takes a DB #1 overall??

AJ Green could be the next Calvin Johnson but again...a WR at #1??? Not to mention we took 3 of them last year.

Cam Newton has a ton of potential and could have the most impact on any single team in the draft. However...he has HUUUUUGE bust potential. He has as good a chance to suck as he has to be good. He could be the next Ben Roethlisberger/Donovan McNabb type or he could be JaMarcus Russell.

There just isn't a good pick at #1 for us because no matter what they aren't going to make a big enough impact to warrant that spot. It sucks but its the reality.

If I had to say anyone right now I'd say Newton simply because you can't deny the tools he has to be a difference maker at QB. I never thought I'd say it but I'd rather take a chance on a QB (with a rookie wage scale) than take a sure thing at DT, DE, WR, or CB.

BPA is bowers, imo. I'm hoping Marvin Austin falls to the third. Also hoping zona falls for newton and offers us a trade. Then we can get green or prince with the fifth, maybe their second and next years first. just dreamin.

this, but no to Amukamara. he reminds me of Antrel Rolle. to me he is the most overrated player in this draft and will be a total bust as a corner and have to move to FS

The more I look at the top prospects in this draft the more my opinion changes. I have never until this weekend considered Patrick Peterson as the #1 pick but I do now. He seems to be the only player who will produce like a top 5 pick should. The reason - he has intelligence to go with the athleticism.

    • yeah, Steve was basically like on any actual topic that approached his flaws/problems.....89 went with the long winded, try to sound like a wise man strategy of just basically just pleading the 5th (and sprinkling in the idea that others could of been wrong or wrong too).   also, in terms of the assaults and stuff like that....it feels like old 89, I feel has sort of forgotten his well-documented confessions and apologies about that aspect and era of his and was trying to re-write his story/image in hindsight.   And in all honesty, it seemed like a PR move on the twitter/cheating stuff also attempting to play himself as not the bad guy some think with the intentional vague suggestions. and the Pivot and all these athlete moves to basically take the reigns and power from traditional outlets exposes they have just as bad as flaws if not more often than the traditional media folks.  I mean I do like the free form long talk when dudes are telling stories but all this stuff is largely flawed and controlled PR often.
    • Sadly, I agree and I’m a huge Melo fan. Might be time to ship him out. Don’t want to make the same mistakes the Pels did. They should’ve gotten rid of Zion two years ago.
    • I forgot he was on the team and I'm pulling for him, but the statistics are not in his favor.  Some guys can recover from injuries and others cannot and let's hope Brooks is the former.  He was a beast in high school and college.
