SB43's big lesson: Quarterbacks are important

Just thought I'd share an article from The Sporting News paid service.

Sorry if its too long for some of you.

Some don't like Cosell; but, I'll give him this, he did pick the Cardinals to beat the Panthers and explained why.

At some point, this franchise needs a franchise QB and we will go no further until we do.

I hope when we do get a "franchise QB" that he is as immobile as possible and can put up gaudy passing stats. I want a 6'5 240 lb statue a la Drew Bledsoe that can see over the line and make his reads and will never leave the pocket where he could get hurt cuz QBs never get hurt standing in the pocket. I bet you if Pittsburgh would've had a QB that didnt try to make plays with his feet and use his athleticism and consistently put up fancy passing stats they would've won the Super Bowl. Oh wait! :D

I read that Gruden likes The Golden Calf of Bristol. Very big man, loves to run. Fox should love him.

Jake doesn't exactly leave the pocket either. He is no threat when the pocket collapses to do anything except go down or fumble.

You know the point the article was trying to make and IMHO, its makes it well.

If it from a paid service we can leave it here. Just post the link.

It sure does. My post was pure sarcasm. The thing I like most about your article is that it compares 2 different QBs with 2 different styles. Both had success last year, but the more athletic improvisational "sandlot" QB won the big game. This is in stark contrast to our "old school" philosophy that a QB can only being one thing.

    • Another Guard?? Small ball was just a meme right?????   Again can anyone confirm Kon had more than 2 dunks for the season?? I watched more highlights and saw lots of layups. Did see one thunder dunk tho...   Jeff just needs to finish this off-season with a guard package trade for a PF/C. Call Portland, that's a start!
    • XL treatment is in the top 5 What The Fuccks for the the huddle. It just happens that the 32nd team and 33rd team GMs knew each other very well. Panthers viewed the 5th year option as being worth a late 6th and a trade was made to make XL a 1st rounder.  He had injuries in OTAs, mini camp and TC. Like others had more injuries in season and just kept playing. Half the season was bad BY and dalton. He still had 500 yds, 5 TDs, and like 45 recs.  Just super weird the treatment. BTW people love to focus on the bad plays, but there was only one WR that caught a TD on the AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year, can you guess who that was?? By many accounts the Pats wanted XL badly and had to select Polk instead, there's strong rumors that Polk is either going to be cut or traded for a 2078 7th rounder. Panthers could have easily been in this situation if not for the Bills allowing the trade up. It pays to have friends.... I feel XL will force some fans to plates of raccoon as he develops. (please stay healthy)
