Am I missing something here? Can you just maul a receiver catching the ball behind the LOS? Because on that screen pass that OSU just picked off, one defender just mauled the receiver and the other one picked it off. Mendoza should've just ate that one but unless there's a stipulation in there I'm not aware of that was as blatant as DPI gets.

How are either of those pointless games?

Because all four teams are going to the playoffs regardless of the outcome.

You can't penalize Alabama for getting beat in an extra game that other teams didn't have to play.  They are still a two loss team.  They will get in.

Meanwhile lets say you Indiana wins this game but their QB has a season ending injury - was it worth it?

That's where I'm coming from.

There isn't a player or coach on Alabama's team who will sleep tonight.  Not guaranteed, most have them out now.

They have three losses, the two teams behind them, Notre Dame and Miami, have two losses.  Notre Dame's two losses are to Miami and Texas A&M by a combined 4 points.  One of Alabama's three losses is @ Florida State, Miami won @ Florida State.

Yes, you're a conference champion and not a loser who played to lose.  That life lesson for 18-22 year olds extends way further into their future than cowardly backing your way into a National Championship will.

Ditto.

IIRC the championship games came about when conferences started expanding, and divisions within the conference were created.

I think in fact a conference had to have 12 teams in order to hold a championship game. Like most things in college football, it was a revenue-producer, because the conference could sell a championship game now as part of their tv package.

The games are a bit unnecessary in this age of a playoff. They are not going to do away with it though as they still are revenue-producers.

Yes I'm aware that Bama has lost three games this year, but you're missing my point ...

ND and Miami didn't play this week.   That's why I said Alabama is a two loss team.

And I don't like Alabama.   I don't want them in.  I'm just saying that you can't penalize them for losing a game that ND and Miami never had to play.

Ahhhhhh, I needed that context.  That makes more sense.

Unfortunately, I think Bama will get penalized for it, only because they got blown out and the CFP committee desperately needs a way to avoid putting Notre Dame in and not Miami (who beat Notre Dame).

Either way, one of those three teams (Bama, ND, Miami) will be wrongfully left out for Tulane and Virginia/James Madison.

Either way, someone(s) are going to be loud and hateful Sunday at 12:15pm.  Including Texas, who will finish 12th, has no shot to get in, but will argue they beat Texas A&M and Oklahoma who are both in.

Sunday, bloody Sunday is coming, and once again it involves the Irish.

    • there is one common denominator in the 2003 & 2015 Carolina Panthers teams they both had ELITE top tier Qb play.  it would require a MVP type of season from Bryce Young to have the same type of success that Jake Delhomme had in  2003 & or Cam Newton in 2015 & lead this team to a SuperBowl is this going to happen or is there any reason to believe Bryce Young is capable of playing similar to Jake Delhomme in 2003 or Cam Newton in 2015 ? well no there is no absolutely NO reason whatsoever to believe that this is going to happen in 2026 ..just saying
    • I'd actually like to see Cherelus get a fair shot to win the job in camp. Wallace is decent in drop zone coverage, but he gets abused in the play action game and is often times out of position in the run game. It might just be me, but I swear every time I watch Wallace play, I see multiple plays a game were it looks like he's just trying to be blocked. Watching Cherelus last year he at least looked like he was trying to hit someone on every play. Wallace plays like a LB who doesn't trust what he sees and it makes him passive and cautious versus Cherelus who regardless of if his decision is right or wrong goes at it 100%.
    • Agreed.  Hasn’t happened to me either, but I feel very strongly about it.  That’s not just one of the worst things a woman could do to a man, it’s a power inherent to only women and is one of the worst things a HUMAN being can do to another.  A man can’t “hide” a pregnancy or maternity.  It’s impossible.  And that sucks for anyone that has to go through that. I always got a weird vibe off her and just found her very unlikeable.  Annoying even.  I’ve always been good at reading people and there was just something about her to me that was off-putting, somewhere under the surface.  And here we are…  she is despicable.
