Wilks is overrated as a coach? He got one year in Arizona and his half year in Carolina was the best ball we’ve seen since what, 2017? We were Ickey Ekwonu meltdown away from the playoffs in 2022 despite everything that happened.

We should have kept Wilks, re-signed Darnold, re-signed Foreman, drafted Kincaid, Torrance, and Charbonnet. Then, had we sucked again, we could have taken Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, or Drake Maye and kept DJ Moore.

I like Wilks the person but he just isn't it as a coach. I don't necessarily like it either but what are ya gonna do? He's basically a poor man's Ron Rivera and that's being kind.

Wilks had a couple nice wins but then he got the doors blown off by the Bengals and then he lost to a rebuilding mediocre at best Steelers team starting Mitch Trubisky in BOA stadium. Those were two things you just can't do. Losing to to Brady with the Bucs didn't help but I wasn't necessarily surprised by that outcome.

I cannot say what would have transpired if we decided to make him the head coach going forward. But he probably would have gotten axed too looking at how our ownership has been so meddlesome. Either way it's over and done with. You gotta move on man.

Wilks was never going to get the job in the first place. Tepper had a hard on for what we have now, and obviously he was a visionary lol. Wilks didn’t fit his profile.

Wilks may have had trouble putting together a good staff for 2023, honestly, but what he did in his 12 games was done without any of his people, and a short handed staff. He did a great job overall in tough circumstances.
Said before, I never was wowed on him as a DC, he fit better at the top, like a highly motivating administrator or something.
It is strange but people have these niches that they can excel in, certain jobs or skills. I think that leadership thing is his. And being a DB position coach, he was really good at that for us.

    • Lol Atlanta looks to have lost their young edge rusher, has no 1st round pick, a complete mess at QB, a new coaching staff… And we swept them this year. Says what they think of us.
    • I mean, you can only go so far with the propping up. When a guy's numbers are as bad overall as Bryce's you have to try to find specific niches to sell. It's just funny that they're honing in on where he's probably weakest to try to prop him up. Whether it's a pro-Bryce conspiracy or not, it echos my chief complaint about PFF's analysis for years. When your purely statistical analysis badly skews from the eye test of actually watching the games, it should be screaming at you that you need to modify your system not double down on it. PFF is awesome at compiling stats but their grade systems are highly flawed and they never seem to try to improve them.
    • Then why is Byce also last in other PFF stats?  The deep ball thrower stat by PFF can simply be flawed vs some conspiracy trying to prop up a QB on a team that a former employee now works for.  Both of these guys were also hired AFTER the Panthers had already drafted Bryce.  Trying to prop him up with a made up stat while he struggled would be a detriment to their own team honestly.
