Falcons to hire Stefanski

I think it is funny that we label coaches without considering their circumstances.  Bill Belichick has a .449 winning percentage as a head coach when Tom Brady was not under center.  He will be a Hall of Fame coach. Stephanski, on the other hand, was asked to function in the shadow of the Watson crippling signing, one that he opposed (as it came out recently).  I am not quite sure what to think of him, but I am not dismissing him as a bad coach.  He had the worst situation in the NFL the entire time he worked there.  Frustrations mounted between him and the players over the six years he was there, but the dysfunction was manufactured in the front office.

Stefanski is too busy trying to fit players into his scheme than actually putting players into the best situation to succeed. That's a pet peeve of mind. I want my coaches to adapt, in-game, personnel-wise and opponent-wise. I know it can be considered a big ask, but that's what makes great coaches great. I want to see coaches continually do more with less, not do less with more.

Look, I am highly skeptical of Dave Canales---ABC: anybody but Canales calling offensive plays for us going forward---but I do acknowledge that he helped Baker to develop and get paid, not as HC granted, but still. Stefanski didn't do that. He arguably became more critical of Baker, and that's ultimately a big reason why their relationship soured. Make no mistake, Baker did not feel that Stefanski was playing to his strengths.

I wouldn’t judge anyone by Browns record. Stefanski is known as an offensive guru. Atlanta will be dangerous

No he is not, he's known as a system coach. He uses a wide zone blocking scheme and play action configurations to try and keep defenses off balance. Honestly, critics complained that his offenses were somewhat stale.

anyone who thinks this is somehow a bad hire has lost their mind

I guess I've lost my mind then, because I think it's a good hire...for us.

I've done my research on the guy, and I'm not enamored.

Listen guys I’ve done my research. The guy who’s won coach of the year twice and took the Browns to the playoffs who got stuck with the Watson trade because the owner is moron is a bad hire for a team replacing Raheem morris.

time for some game theory. In this tweet I wil… (1/37)

    • I used to think Juan was a Zod alt. Agree he's a great poster.
    • Hawks said nah we good and sent him to the shadow realm aka the Wizards. Cold blooded. I mean they're 2-2 in a series with a young up and coming Knicks team largely through 34 year old CJ McCollum. Even if they ultimately lose the series at least they are there and have something to build on. I think Hornets fans are just beaten down and lack the objectivity to assess the situation. They think we are going to get so much worse if and when we finally change gears. Worse how? We've already been a lottery team for years now. We've already been looking to win our first playoff series in about a quarter century. We already can't get past the play in and in failing to do so we have completely embarrassed ourselves twice looking like we don't even belong. Honestly there is absolutely no excuse for a team like the Magic to be more competitive and successful than us in the playoffs. Absolutely disgusting. But that's just me. I was fuging lit when we got the Hornets back in Charlotte but that is old old news. It's time for these boys to get into a playoff series. Enough is enough. If they can't do it for 2026-27 then they need to make wholesale changes regardless.
    • Not one single pick that is asking me why we drafted a guy in the first place. It was a guy we needed and/or a guy that had certain traits making them stand out. Best of all, I feel everyone we drafted are capable of stepping onto the field this year and have a meaningful role (even Kuwatch on special teams). Obviously, nothing is guaranteed but I'm not seeing any huge flags on guys because they're risky projects or massive overreaches.
