Tony Pauline: word inside league circles @oregonfootball S Dillon Thieneman could end up with the #Vikings at 18 or the #Panthers at 19

Honestly, I think Pauline may be right. If Thieneman is there, he just might be the pick. My thing is what we would have to give up to move up if he's still sitting there at...let's say 16. If there's no movement and he's actually sitting there at 19, it will come down to how we value the safety position--whether or not we believe his positional value justifies the pick. Emmanwori wasn't picked until the second. I bet a few teams wished they had picked him last year in the first.

I'm not gonna lie, Thieneman would probably be my pick.

It's surely something to think about. Thieneman is the better fit for us, and I think that's pretty undeniable. Picking Emmanuel McNeil-Warren could be a duplication. I guess it would depend upon whether they're really convicted about him at the FS spot.

I don't see him making it as a deep cover safety. He honestly reminds me a lot of Emmanwori and could be great as that short coverage safety with his long arms and ball skills + ability to cover tight ends. Is that a player most teams would like (including us), absolutely. The problem is we have Moehrig for 2 more years and just drafted Ransom last year. Granted, I think McNeil-Warren is much better than Ransom.

I don't think he makes it past the Vikings (and honestly could see the Cowboys taking him or a team like the Bears trading up to pick ahead of us).

Most I would want to see us trade up (if we really want him) is to 17 and trade 19 and something like a 4th rounder

I buy the thieneman thing because right now there’s nobody but Nick Scott at that position, but honestly, we’re in peak smoke season and he doesn’t really fit with our formula of drafting expensive high value positions early.
