The majority of people who complained about Cam weren't from Carolina. He was a polarizing figure in the NFL. I liked Cam but he had bad timing for his antics and I think it rubbed a lot of people, especially in the league FO, the wrong way. I believe it affected the team, especially in regards to the outcome of SB50. The league didn't want Cam as the face of the NFL.

the majority, yes of course - but there was a large amount of panther fans also. this place was miserable at times, like I said - whether it was the towel, the dancing, the fumble, the shoulder, the comeback.

I think we are speaking past each other here.

Im not calling BY Elite. He's not. What I am saying is that its a complete lottery to draft an elite QB. In BY's draft the Texans forums are all basically saying the same thing we are about giving a contract extension. AR15 might not make a roster this year. Trever Lawrence was supposed to be the best QB prospect ever and is not close. Burrow is good but is he elite? Kyler, Baker? Even in your example above. Hurts is not what I would consider elite either.

My point is that its really hard to get a guy like Josh Allen or Matthew Stafford. So you have to work with what you have.

Of course it's a crapshoot to find a truly elite QB. But we don't even need that to be competitive or successful. Our two best long term starters in 3 decades of existence were both flawed yet productive passers and each led us to a Super Bowl. Hell Jake Delhomme in the year where his arm went off a cliff and we had to start Matt Moore for a couple spells we had a superior passing offense than anything we've seen under Bryce Young the last 3 years. We're still trying to crack the top 25.

All I'm saying is this is not the 2023 Panthers by any means. The cupboards are not bare. We are not working with scraps. We have invested through the nose to build up the roster and the trenches on both sides of the ball. We've also added multiple first and second day pass catchers in the draft. If a QB can't succeed here they are cooked.

That can all be true but at the same time you really shouldn’t draft a guy that is way out on the margins and expect much else besides what we have seen.

The extreme of what you are asking for is drafting a QB 1st round every year looking to find the guy. That doesnt work.

Or just continue to add true competition to the QB room which is one of the worst in the NFL. I think the lack of urgency in our QB room is inevitably going to hold this team back from being great.

If our Running game spudders we will sink quick in this coming season. I hope that doesn't happen but having a QB room with BY n Pickett is embarrassing at this stage of the game.

    • Basically agree.  He is the one of that bunch that offers upgraded pass catching along with he is supposed to be kind of special.   Then you have the OL and the ideas that if they perform you can have JAG backs and still do well. So okay we could be fine.  But Brooks is important and to me that receiving element sets him apart.  So there sure is something riding on him.     What strikes me as incongruent is people over in Atlanta or those that follow them look at Penix with a third surgery and act like it is no big deal.      And we are on pins and needles over Brooks.  Either they should worry a lot more or we should worry a lot less.
    • I usually go a game or two optimist over the consensus here but this is too early for me to say. I need to see some players on the field.  I am not feeling real optimistic though.
    • Okay as a ‘take CJ’ fan I actually don’t obsess over CJ and Houston, contrary to the narrative.  But I thought I picked up some noise that his OL left a lot to be desired.    Not a single Beyce supporter would judge him harshly if he had a crappy OL. We all know that.    So be fair about it.  A QB needs to be protected.  Especially a guy that gets to his spot and wants to finish the play from there. Which CJ is.
