Cam Newton's apology for "entertainment and icon" statement

People are still dinging on him for saying this, when the quote was completely taken out of context by the person who tweeted his response to a marketing/endorsement question.

A very humble response.

Everyone recognises that and only the ignorant would hold it over him.

That said, he said it, it was a mistake and it either shows a lack of judgement, preparation or appreciation of the situation he is in.

It's only magnified because there are other things preceding it.

Possibly, although they were the ones setting up the interview. If he was naive, it just shows he wasn't prepared well enough.

It's not a huge issue, but it's just another reference for people to ask questions.

It hardly matters whether he is humble or not. "Holding it over him" is silly. Nobody is saying he's a bad person for it at this point.

He is a charming guy....great smile. Obviously great athlete. Anyone know his wonderlic score? I think that is important in evaluating whether a very good spread QB can make it as an NFL QB.

I do think that Peter King was wrong to take Cam's statement out of context and tweet it. He wanted to make news making Cam look bad. Not the action of a responsible journalist.

Has King apologized? If not, he didn't 'accidentally' misquote cam, he was out to say something bad. About cam.

You can read his MMQB article on it. I don't think the context changes it but he should have been a bit more clear about the question I suppose.

And even when a Hall of Fame Running Back puts the comment in the correct context, he still apologizes.

If he was as arrogant as some people seem to think he is, he could have said, "Yeah, Marshal Faulk is right. I was taken out of Context. Peter King was wrong to mis-quote me.".

Instead, he took the High Road and said he could have used other words to better describe how he felt.

No such thing a a responsible journalist. That is like saying there are responsible news casters. They want what everyone wants when they go to work, and that is money and money comes from getting people's attention. For king it was shitting on Newton, for News it's Murders, Rapes usually the shock value type stuff. He never took Cam out of context, he let the media do that for him. Not very respectful but then again, it's how these guys work and Cam was ignorant not knowing that, but he knows, or does now.

I am also curious to his wonderlic score. Something tells me it isn't very good. I said it before and I really think intelligence/football IQ is his biggest issue, forget about character, does he have the brains?
