Kiper says Cam now '10-12 area in draft'

John Clayton said the Panthers shouldn't pass on him after he was at the combine. He said the bad throws were to be expected from a QB coming out of a shotgun offense and his release point was one of the most consistent at the combines.

Clayton also thinks he is a project but in two years could be "special"

I kind of figured he would fall.. What maybe best for the panthers is to take Marcell Dareus. There is 2 many risks in the draft..Next Year there will be 2 to 3 good QB's. And we just take one then.Lets just take the best DT on the board and that will be Marcell Dareus. Any Agree or disagree....?

It's such a huge risk and in the meantime we would be passing on guys like PP and Dareus who look like they're ready to play right now.

didnt he say clausen would be a first round pick too?

so by saying Newton is a first round pick Newton is bound to fall to the 2nd round? :D

..I'm gonna try to stop posting in Newton threads. Same repetitive arguments, becoming exhausted arguing lol

I know but at some point we have to pull the trigger on a guy. We can't just keep hoping the QB position fixes itself. I'm not saying go crazy, but if you feel like Cam or Gabbert can be the guy we have to pull the trigger. If not than Darius, PP, or whoever is fine with me.

To be honest and I said this then, they should have started preparing for this 3 fugging years ago. We put it off then and now we are trapped with no QB in the toughest division in the NFL.

We are about to become the Buffalo Bills post Jim Kelly if we don't stop trying to make the safe play and actually take a chance on a guy.

Nobody wants a QB first overall because it is too risky. It was last year with Bradford as well. Luck would have been nice but there is no guarantees with him either and QB prospects like Luck don't come around very often.

If we are picking 12-20 in future drafts we are looking at QB prospects that have less potential and/or more questions than these two guys.

Cam or gabby doesn't have to be great right now. We may have Moore, we will have Clausen, and we may get a guy like Bulger/McNabb/Volek in FA to allow either one of these guys to transition a little slower and take their time to develop.

If we don't take either of these guys I want it to be bc we don't feel they are franchise guys (I would be cool with that) but not because we have a lack in faith in our coaching staff to mold something special out of these guys.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
