It's a bad pick because we used a 2nd round pick to get a guy that was projected in the 6th or 7th. Sure, projections aren't set in stone, but COME ON a 2nd round pick for someone that was supposed to go that late?! They couldn't have waited and just used our 4th or something on him?? The chances he'd be gone in the 4th are slim to none.

I seriously doubt he would have last past the 4th, but I'm talking about judging him as a player, not based on what Hurney traded for him. Armanti had nothing to do with the trade. All he can do is to try his best to learn how to play WR.

Many people on these same boards use this same logic to justify picking their own poster child first pick, despite them not really being a consensus number one pick.

I think you can understand the difference between reaching for the 5th best player in the draft at the #1 pick, versus trading away the 33rd pick in the draft for a 4th or 5th round (even later) player.

It wouldn't have mattered if AE had went to So Cal. He was projected as a 4th round or later pick and the Panthers traded a 2nd rounder, knowing that the pick would likely be early in the 2nd round.

It really doesn't even matter if AE turns into the next Josh Cribbs or Michael Vick. The trade for AE was a dumb one.

Simple rule- if you trade with New England, you probably get screwed.

I'm not saying I know what Armanti will turn out to be, but it's way to early to decide we wasted the 33rd overall pick on him. He barely got a chance to play last year and none of us can be sure how much that had to do with his ability vs. the coaching staff not knowing how to or wanting to use him.

It will hurt to watch the Pats use that pick on a player most will assume (falsely) is better than Armanti, but that player is just as likely to be a bust as Armanti (or any other player you draft) is.

Get back to me on whether or not Armanti was worth giving up that pick in the offseason following the 2013 season.

He will get his chance to fill Smith's shoes under Rivera.....I don't know squat about the guy...but if he's going to play WR at 5'10" in the NFL he will need to have the attitude and swagger of Steve Smith along....otherwise he will have been a wasted pick.

Combine that with the fact that he did almost nothing on the field last year (in very limited opportunities) and looked absolutely lost (and slow) in the preseason, and it is fair to say that the analysts projections of him as a 4th round or later player were probably fairly accurate.

I didn't call AE a bust. Again, I said AE could turn into the next Mike Vick and it would have still been a bad trade.

Like I said, supposing it's true that other teams were going to take him, and we along with other teams had his draft value as high as third round status, and he turns out to be a great player, then the pick is no longer a reach. It would indeed turn out to have been the right thing to do.

If the Panthers had traded this year's 3rd rounder for the rights to draft AE, then maybe so. But they didn't. They traded a 2nd round pick in this year's draft that was likely to be in the top part of the 2nd round for a late 3rd round pick in last year's draft.

No one on here hates AE. I hated the pick. Hated it. A solid team with a few holes can take chances on players like AE. The Panthers were not one of those teams. I hope this kid becomes a Pro Bowler. Oh and people who defend him actually have less proof then the people who criticize the selection. Get over yourselves.
