Because we're the only team that has Jimmy Clausen as our starter.

But we're not the only team with an awful, awful situation at quarterback. In fact, there's nearly a half dozen other teams with near equally bad situations.

At least tendered Matt Moore, lol.

JoaT, I started out anti-Cam. Depending how my morning dump goes, I can go either way now. The last three mornings I have had great, soul cleansing craps and as a result have been thinking we should take Cam #1. The upside is so huge with the kid.

No, we're easily the worst.

Not by much, if at all. Even if we are, we're in the SAME position as Minnesota, Arizona, San Francisco (assuming A. Smith does not re-sign), and Cincy (if Palmer leaves)... None of us have a quarterback really (though we do have Matt Moore if we count his tender! :P), and certainly none of us have a clear franchise guy.

And it's not even close. If it were a horserace, we'd be Secretariat at the Belmont Stakes.

that's because you're a Carolina Panthers fan. Seriously, we're in the exact situation a number of other teams are as far as needing a quarterback, and we at least have a backup with a winning record tendered... though who knows if he'll be healthy. =|

This sums it up for me. It's why we're considering him seriously, as are the Bills, Bengals, & Cardinals - ALL teams in the top-5. Nobody denies the risk associated with the pick, but it's that insane potential Cam has that has team's interested.

If we - or any team - takes Newton and hits on the pick they're going to have a monster on their hands at the most important position in sports. Is he a project? I don't think he is to the degree that the Mike Mayock's of the world seem to believe, but he is a bit of one, sure. But the immense upside is not in question.

For me - for a lot of folks - that potential alone is reason enough to take this risk. I honestly don't see any other player in this draft with that kind of potential, at any position.

Clausen is one of the worst QBs I've ever seen. He is dreadful. Webb looked pretty decent in limited action for Minnesota in bad circumstances. Alex Smith isn't great but he's Joe Montana compared to Jimmy, and I'd rather have Skelton too.

Webb was awful. Not sure what game you saw. He was not good. He had a 60 qb rating over 4 games, threw no touchdowns and had 3 interceptions. Sure, he ran for 2, but that's all he did. He was bad, bad, bad. He looked "good" against Philly, but if you want to say that about him you have to count a couple of Jimmy's games as "good" too, so blech.

Alex Smith is CERTAINLY an upgrade over Jimmy but he's a free agent. There's been talk about him being brought back but I am unaware if there has been any actual moves. Obviously if he is there, they're off the list.

Skelton had two touchdowns, two interceptions, and posted a 62 QB rating. Sure, he may have been an upgrade over Jimmy, but considering who he had coaching him and the receivers around him.... Ugggh.

The reality is Jimmy was bad, but so too were those guys. Even if we assume that they are upgrades, they are still not upgrades you ever want starting a game. All of us are in the same boat when it comes to QB.

    • The lack of discipline has seriously been our downfall the last month. Seems like we just went off course this last month and Lee won't address it. You can't just live and die by the 3 when you can attack the paint and at worst draw a foul
    • Great season regardless of what happens. From starting out 4-14 to ending 44-38 is incredible progress and future is bright from here. I do think we can beat the Heat and then win on the road against either Orlando or Philly assuming Embiid doesn’t miraculously return sooner. But if not, a higher draft pick is nice too
    • I know a DT that's asking for a trade: 🤔 maybe a home discount can be worked out. Dan Morgan could create up to $80 million in space through restructures of stars like Derrick Brown, Jaycee Horn, or Taylor Moton. They could also include players like Tershawn Wharton ($18.6M cap hit) in the trade to balance the salaries. Carolina Receives: DT  Dexter Lawrence II New York Receives: 2026 2nd Round Pick (No. 51 Overall): A premium Day 2 selection that fits the for  Lawrence  after his 0.5-sack season in 2025. WR  Xavier Legette : A young, high-upside receiver who provides the playmaking depth HC John Harbaugh needs for his offense. 2026 4th Round Pick: Immediate mid-round value. 2027 4th Round Pick (via MIN): Future capital acquired in the  Adam Thielen  trade.  ----- Stone Forsythe* (another young player as a potential trade option)provides immediate offensive line retooling for HC John Harbaugh.    John Harbaugh's history in Baltimore proves he values draft volume over individual superstars.    Just my 2cents
