Tree removal?

Recommended Posts

Anyone ever paid someone to remove trees from your property?

I've got someone coming out tomorrow to look at what we want done and to give us an estimate...

We have about 10 or so medium sized Sweet Gums that we want down, and one huge Poplar... maybe another tree type here and there... Probably 15 trees total with the Poplar being the largest (the trunk itself is at least 3 feet in diameter, and splits into two main trunks about 8 feet from the ground)...

Just curious as to any experiences anyone here had in similar situations...

Thanks!

Just two weeks ago.

3 trees cut down completely, high large sections cut off 4 other large trees.

$850

With tree removal a lot depends on how easy the tree is to get up to, how big they are, and how close to building structures they are.

Depending on these factors you could be in for a pretty penny.

We had a "microburst" last fall.

Guess that is like a tornado....sorta, but not really.

Anyway, it flattened a willow, a pine, and a Silver Maple that was the second oldest in our county...shame that one.

We got 3 estimates and went with the middle one because they also happen to be the guys the village uses to permit tree removal.

Apparently you don't need a permit for emergency removal, but I asked them to take out a diseased pine in the front yard too. Did that one for free.

Advice: Get multiple estimates, find out how long it will take, and have them grind the stumps too and keep the grindings to use as your mulch this spring.

It aint cheap.

I'm fully expecting the estimate to come in around $2500 at least...

The Poplar is like 60-80 feet tall at least, and too close to the house for comfort... The Sweet Gums range from 25 - 45 feet, and we get tired of their seed pods being all over the ground...

Did you keep the wood, or let them haul it away? I'm wondering if I save some money if I let them have it...

It is possible that the poplar has a few good logs in it. If that is the case, you might find someone that is willing to exchange their labor for the logs off of the poplar.

Your standard tree removal places aren't going to do that. But they are also insured.

more likely you'll save money if they don't have to haul it.

I had them mulch anything under 8" I think... the rest was donated to the boyscouts and given away as firewood, but I didn't have control over that.

Actually no.

Here anyway.

It costs them a lot to dump/dispose so you might get a deal if you know where to ditch the stuff.

It costy us 2700 to do the above mentioned trees with stump grindage.

The guys had to use rapelling gear and all kinds of funky highwire stuff to safely do the monster maple. Add to that it was about 30 feet from the house and about 90 feet tall...

Yeah, I gotta go with the insured guy... That Poplar would destroy our home pretty fierce if it fell that way...

We've downed at least 10 trees on our property ourselves, and we may end up doing that with most of the Sweet Gums...

There is one Sweet Gum near our powerline, so I will probably have them do that one and the Poplar at the very least...

Poor Trees :(

Shame good wood is gonna get wasted.

(TWSS)

If they don't save my any money by hauling it off, I'll keep it... My grandpa still burns a wood stove to heat his house, and he is currently overloaded with firewood... but I'll take him some more if it is the same price either way...

I don't think Sweet Gum burns all that well though...

you can buy a pretty sweet chainsaw for may less than getting someone else to do it for you! I could see the Poplar based on you saying it's proximity to the house and all so I'd be tempted to get that one down professionally...but the others I would do myself. Isn't hard to get rid of firewood I'm sure.

yeah we did those 10 in a day with just myself, my 93 (at the time) year old grandpa, my wife, and my mom... brought them down, sawed them up, and hauled them off...

These remaining ones are the ones that were too tall/too close to something it might damage should something go wrong...

    • Never been. Going to a concert there Thursday night. Decent tailgating opportunities in the parking area or no? I see people are going to the beer hall to grab a beer to get their parking validated. Seems like a good plan to me. I'd like to smoke a brisket and do a decent spread of food but I just don't know if the parking setup allows for it.

    • Bryce also has a degree in psychology. He has an uncanny ability to compartmentalize things in a way that allows him to enter his second NFL season with optimism that he can still be the player who was worthy of being the No. 1 pick of the 2023 draft despite the kind of rookie year that has destroyed others in his position. Young credits that in part to his past. He graduated from the University of Alabama in three years with a degree in psychology. His father was a therapist in the mental health field for 20 years. His mother was a special education teacher, and his grandfather was a psychologist. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/40334565/bryce-young-developing-leader-panthers-year-2
