2011 NFL SCOUTING COMBINE OVERVIEW - QUARTERBACKS

By

SUPER SCOUT MAX EMFINGER

There were Six Quarterbacks who tested really well and also looked outstanding in the passing drills. Cam Newton (6-5, 248, 4.59) of Auburn really put on a show for the NFL Scouts at the Scouting Combine as he ran a 4.59 in the forty; did a 35-inch vertical jump; ran an outstanding 4.18 in the pro-shuttle; did a 126 Standing Broad Jump; and did 15 Reps of 225 on the bench press.

Blaine Gabbert (6-4, 234, 4.62) also looked exceptionally good as did a 35-inch vertical jump; did an amazing 4.12 in the pro-shuttle; and a 120 Standing Broad Jump to finish with a 1,938 MEARS RATING. Gabbert also looked really great in the passing drills and he only enhanced his opportunity to be drafted as a #1 Draft Choice.

Three other quarterbacks looked outstanding and did extremely well in the Combine. Those three included Jake Locker (6-3, 231, 4.59) of Washington; Colin Kaepernick (6-5, 233, 4.53) of Nevada; and Christian Ponder (6-2, 229, 4.63) of Florida State who really put on a show. All three quarterbacks did unbelievable pro shuttles that demonstrated an outstanding quickness for a quarterback as Ponder ran a 4.09; Locker ran a 4.12; and Kaepernick ran a 4.18.

The sixth quarterback who tested exceptionally well and who may be the best athlete of the Top Six is Tyrod Taylor of Virginia Tech. Taylor (6-1, 217, 4.47) might be the most intriguing prospect in the Combine. Taylor put-up Combine bests of a 4.09 in the shuttle; a 37.5 in the vertical jump; and a 126 in the Standing Broad Jump. His 1,914 MEARS RATING and 6-1 height indicates that, although he was the 2010 ACC Player of the Year at quarterback, Taylor could be drafted for another position.

Newton had the best MEARS RATING with a 1,966; while Gabbert recorded a 1,938; Locker did a 1,932; Kaepernick a 1,931; and Ponder recorded a 1,930. With these type of MEARS RATINGS, all five of these quarterbacks could become #1 Draft Choice in the April NFL Draft.

    • Winning games and be a +500 team are good. But the goal is to win Super Bowl.  Chiefs had Alex Smith, went to playoff twice and still replaced him.   BY as of now: - To many fumbles - Completion in the intermediate range is just far below acceptable - Not enough of a deep throw threat....   The stats you try use is deceiving.  Catchable......  That is an opinion. Show me the completion %. And also, how does BY compare to other QBs using the stats you cited. Oh... ranked at 27
    • Your intelligence is artificial.
    • The Entitlement Paradox: When Winning Isn't Enough for Panther fans.    Just the other season(s) we were praying for wins by any means. Brought in every run of the mill QB you could think of.  We know all sides of the ball was bad like egregious bad. However some how we have won 5 games and TOXIC ENTITLEMENT has emerged.    We are a team that has to take wins by anymeans nothing has changed. Keep pounding means it aint gonna be perfect!!    Some panther fans have now developed a toxic entitlement where even victories feel insufficient, demanding flawless performance, or perfection, which stems from historical success in which we dont have any lol. This mindset poisons communities by fostering relentless criticism, harassment, and ingratitude that undermine team morale and alienate casual supporters. For the new Carolina Panthers, this could manifest as fans booing Bryce Young after gritty wins for low passing yards despite low turnovers, pressuring tepper into premature changes mid-rebuild, or driving away talent through online abuse!! eroding the positive momentum from their recent 4-game streak has brought us. Trust and believe the players do see your toxicity.    Anyways here are some positive stats.      Most Accurate QB on... 20+ Yard Throws 1. Drake Maye (79.2%) 2. Sam Darnold (79.2%) 3. Bryce Young (75.0%) 10-19 Yard Throws 1. Jaxson Dart (88.0%) 2. Jayden Daniels (82.9%) 3. Drake Maye (80.7%) 0-9 Yard Throws 1. Drake Maye (92.9%) 2. Spencer Rattler (92.6%) 3. Bryce Young (91.7%) @FantasyPtsData
