Warren Moon sees racial bias regarding Cam Newton

Personally, I don't think Nawrocki's statements were racially motivated. He just wants to sensationalize to sell draft guides.

But he should understand that attacking someone personally with the venom he showed in that piece leaves a writer open to these kind of charges.

What makes it worse is his style of writing. He doesn't state, for example, "some people find his smile fake" he states, "has a fake smile". When you make these sort of blanket statements relating to character, it is easy to believe the writer has an agenda.

That is true whether we are talking about Jimmy Clausen or Cam Newton.

Racism or not, I've never seen such criticism over a player in a LONG LONG time, sans Vick. Cam doesn't deserve it. But welcome to the New Media world we live in where any fool with a computer or phone can create a wildstorm.

I can guarantee neither of you has ever read a PFW Draft Guide before :nonod:

I've seen statements like these on a pretty regular basis, not all about quarterbacks, and by no means limited to black players.

The only reason it's getting press now is because he dared to say something bad about Cam Newton (OMG)

Well by all means, take the quiz then. Let's see how well you can pick out who this raging racist is talking about (if you've got the guts)

Bottom line is there is some hate and extra scrutiny towards Cam Newton because he's a black quarterback. You can deny but it's true. Not calling you racist, but you might have had an upbringing that causes you not to see it as racism or racially motivated, but trust me it's there.

People like to cover up the racism but it still exists. With the Mike Vick situation, they want him barred from the Madden cover even after he made redemption. Even Goodell was been unfair with some of his punishments including TD celebration fines

Sorry. Wrong on both counts.

The people that want Vick barred from the Madden cover are with PETA. Do you really think that's a race thing?

The TD celebration rule is stupid, but it's clearly written out and has zero to do with race.

But when white quarterbacks get the same criticisms, that's just objective analysis, right?

And don't bother saying they don't unless you've gotten up the guts to take the quiz I posted.

(put your money where your mouth is) :D

And you would be wrong. I used to read them every year, but now I find it is easier to get info on line (and free).

This is the first I have read Nawrocki. I don't think the guy is racist, but yes, his comments to me are way over the top. That sort of venomous character attack about any young man would be inappropriate to me in a draft guide for the general public, unless it came with substantiating examples or facts.

So do u honestly think Goodell gave fair and equal suspensions to all players accused of violations?

It isn't about whether a white QB and a black QB had the same or similar analysis. That has nothing to do with racial bias. It is about whether certain critiques are more frequent or more often applied to one race over another. And I think there is. I don't think it is on purpose just subconcious stereotypes.

Nawrocki's been writing them since 2002.

I've seen plenty of guys criticized for character issues and other failings, but nobody ever made a big deal of it until "oh my gosh, he said bad stuff about Cam Newton"

Take the quiz I posted. See if you can pick out who's what.

The vast majority of the fines and suspensions have pre-written penalties, which would make it pretty well impossible for them to be racially motivated.

That, plus Goodell doesn't make all those decision alone. A lot of the enforcement stuff fell under Gene Washington until he retired (just last year as I recall).

Do a quick image search for "Gene Washington, NFL" and then come back to that question.

You just contradicted yourself.

First you said it has nothing to do with racial bias, then when you described what causes it, you gave a description of racial bias.

Not a very effective argument :nonod:

With all due respect Scot I am truly beginning to wonder what you are reading. I said the analysis themselves has nothing to do with racial bias. In other words neither side is immune from certain criticisms. The racial bias occurs when those criticisms aren't distributed evenly across different races when they should be.

If he has been writing since '02 then apparently I have read him. I can assure you I have never read as scathing a personal attack as his against Cam Newton, so not sure where the argument lies.

Neither have I accused him of racism. Frankly, I do not understand why this has become a crusade for you.

You can choose to believe that race does not play a part in opinions of NFL QB's, but that also tells me you either choose not to see it, or you haven't read all the posts on this very page.

Look up Jimmy Clausen's profile last year, or just read the quiz I posted.

Guys on here are insisting that it's racial. I gave them a way to test their assumptions, but none of them seem up to the task.

The test was a "put up or shut up", and guess what? They've all "shut up" so to speak.

They still want to say the criticism of Newton is racist, but they're not willing to put their claims to the test.

That tells me a lot :nonod:
