If you knew Newton would hit his upside

Luck's ceiling was Manning-esque qualities in breaking down the game and accuracy

Newton's ceiling was a genuine dual threat

So, essentially it depends on what kind of QB you like to run your offense. Personally I don't think Newton will ever be THAT accurate and that's something that can only be refined rather than significantly improved.

People also forget that Luck was actually a pretty good runner...

Imagine him with passing skill in a vertical offense. That's Newton's upside.

If he could have that passing ability, I would be unbelievably excited to have him lead the Panthers.

However, I am not sold that his one read and then run offense (similar to what Vick did at VT) easily translates to the NFL.

Zone defenses will eat this kid alive in the passing game....just my opinion.

If I had a crystal ball and could truly predict the success of college QB's in the NFL....I sure as hell would not be sitting here typing on this computer.

would you prefer him over Luck?

if he hit his upside, I would take Newton. If he can shred a defense as well as the ability to escape defenders, I would be more than happy with Newton. Especially with his size.
