PFW: Carolina seeks second-round pick By Nolan Nawrocki

Although Panthers GM Marty Hurney has remained steadfast expressing interest in a quarterback, the way we hear it, the Panthers' decision at the top of the draft will come down to three players — Alabama DT Marcell Dareus, Georgia WR A.J. Green and LSU CB Patrick Peterson.
"Marty wants everyone to believe he is taking a quarterback," said one rival executive. "He would love to get his second-rounder back (traded to the Patriots last year to land Armanti Edwards in the third round). Marty does not like taking quarterbacks in the first round out of principle — there is too much boom or bust. Look at his history — he has been there (nine) years, he has never had a great (quarterback), and he has never done it."
"The owner (Jerry Richardson) wants clean," said an inside source. "He struggled taking Julius Peppers because of (rumored) issues."

Was the principal of no QB i the first his or John Fox? This exec seems to be going off the way things were not the way things are now. This could all be a ruse but I just don't see the point. You hold all the cards..you don't need to play games to get your guy.

    • I don’t know about floor in a team defense sense but we needed more.  The floor that I am familiar with is our QBs floor and it is so low that every other part of the team needs to be beefed up.     We tried our best to improve these things and I think we did improve the defense and we at least kept the offense  from sinking from no LT.  And ostensibly helped the receivers too.   So we kept a window open that we at least have a chance to improve our record by a game of two.  Which would probably give us the division.

    • Yeah. I am one of. those who think a JAG RB can eat with really good blocking. (Brooks is most important in my mind, in tbe passing game and that is what we’ll lose without him)  There are a lot of aspects to this. The big one that caused us to struggle is Young and his arm scared no one.  Best back, best blocking still cannot defeat a really good defense if they are not forced to respect the pass.  And teams did not.    But, a strong OL and running game Can get us over against weaker defenses.  And if Bryce still doesn’t scare anyone we can still win some games. Like last year  So it is really important to tend to that OL.   Get that straight and see if in his fourth year he can finally back defenses off. That is what if is all about this year to me, on the Bryce front.
