So I'm about 3/4ths of the way through the 4th book and it is pretty disappointing. The third book was amazing, but I feel like it is a chore to read the 4th. Does the 5th get any better or more of the same?

5th book isn't the quality of the 3rd but its definitely easier to read than the 4th. i put off reading the 4th for at least 4 years until i absolutely had to read it right before the 5th book came out. took me 3 weeks to read the 4th book, but i blew through the 5th book in less than 5 days.

much easier read, but still not as good as the 3rd

Already itching for more info on season 3 now...

Also of recent news, Liam Cunningham (Davos) signed a 6 year contract extension... Sure, it probably has a clause about nullifying it should HBO cancel at some point, but it is at least a good sign that they don't plan, at current, for the show to be going anywhere...

I actually have some questions too.

I wanna read the books up to where I am right now in the show. Do the books go by seasons? Like if I read the first two books, would I be at the same spot as I am in the show?

And one more thing. I'm craving this sh*t now, so can anyone suggest another bomb ass series somewhat similar to GOT? I've heard Spartacus, so I'll probably try that out, but are there others?

Books 1 and 2 will get you up to where we are now with the TV show, with more details and maybe a few more somewhat minor important things that have been left out. Also, some things that happened in season 2 of the series were from book 3.

If you start reading, you'll probably end up going ahead and finishing, and then waiting for the show to catch up with you... lol...

As far as other TV shows... I don't really know what you'd like. Personally, I liked Jericho (it lasted 2 seasons) if you're into post-apocalyptic fiction. The characters were interesting and the development of the story sometimes had a similar feel to what GoT has been for me. I'm eventually going to get around to watching Walking Dead and Breaking Bad from the beginning. I never watched Lost either, but I know it had a lot of fans.

But honestly, nothing will probably compare... because A Song of Ice and Fire is probably some of the best writing in the history of writing...

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. I like the show so much that I don't wanna spoil it by reading ahead haha. I'm the opposite of most people. Watch first, then read.

And The Walking Dead is great, and was probably my favorite TV show before this week, but it honestly doesn't hold a candle to GOT. The show is so well done, it's almost unbelievable.

I don't follow show news much, but where the hell are the Martells? The Red fuging Viper? Most of these people are just characters that should have been in season 2.

It is looking more and more like the Dornish folks are going to be pushed to season 4... A LOT of people want to see James Purefoy brought in as the Red Viper...
