Why would we not trade Peppers to a division rival?

I know this has been touched on in other threads, but I think it's worth a discussion on its own.

I think the whole idea of not trading a star player to a division rival doesn't make a lot of sense. I'm not saying teams don't think that way, but I don't think they should, or at least it shouldn't be much of a factor.

If we made a deal with another NFC South team, yes, it would help them, but we wouldn't be GIVING Peppers away. They'd have to pay PLENTY. They'd get Peppers, but they'd lose a first round pick and probably another high pick. They'd lose players that could turn out to be studs - think of our last few first rounders - and we'd be getting them.

Obviously, in any trade, a team gets something, but they have to give up something in return. That's why it's called a trade.

To me, the important part of the trade is if it's a fair deal, not who the trading partner is. Sure, if all things were equal, trade him out of the division or to the AFC.

But to me, the bottom line is, it would be very foolish if we were to take a lesser offer than what we could have gotten just because we didn't want to deal Peppers to an NFC South team.

Not only will the recipient of Peppers services receive a stud player "at times", but they will also recieve the inside info for defeating the Panthers

I don't think Peppers would have that much more information than other teams already have. Other DCs certainly watch plenty of film and know our tendencies very well.

Plus, we'll have a new DC this year, which limits whatever information Peppers would be able to provide even more.

not really talking about defense, who else would know more about our offense than a player that practices against them 9 months out of the year

Yeah, it's similar.

But I wanted to talk not so much about Peppers specifically but just about the idea that trading with a division rival is bad.

To me, if a trade helps you, you do it, regardless of which team you're dealing with.

It's like people forget that whichever team trades for him will also be hurt by the trade in that they'd have to give up an important part of their future (a first round pick, plus more) to get him.

yeah, we have had plenty of opponents comment in prior seasons that it is common knowledge what Fox likes to do with leads and certain situations....

      You bring up a good point on the stability part and i would agree that probably will factor into it. But yes, Tepper does have a strong influence on who stays/goes but I still believe ultimately it'is Morgan, Tilis and Canales who will decide.

      I can always count on yout to put things so delicately lol. I'm still not sold on the fact that Tepper will make them keep him if they don't see him as a long term answer.

      holy poo... this thread inspired me to keep trying to guess passwords to various alts I've created over the years and I finally got in! I pretty much accepted my fate as a lurker for the last several months because I could not remember my password. I didn't realize that new users couldn't join either, that explains things. I have been around for years under several different monikers, through the good and bad. I too always find myself coming back here even with all of the new social media options for Panther fan engagement. It's simply nostalgic.   I do get extremely annoyed with the same 5-10 posters shitting on Bryce and complaining about everything. It's unfortunate that half of them are mods and that nobody new can join because now I pretty much just come on here and see Bryce / Panther slander. There is barely any positivity to be had. We all watch this team and hang on this forum for entertainment purposes only. We have no control or say in anything. I used to be such a crazy ass fan that would argue with strangers about Cam newton on the internet and at games. Now, as a father of 3, a business owner and someone with way gnarlier life problems - I like to watch football and talk about football as an escape. Not to bitch more. I really like the direction of the team and will root anyone in a Panthers jersey. I live down the street from the Rams practice facility, Matthew Stafford is currently coaching his daughters flag football team in the same program I coach my sons. I have two highly ranked Rams staff members sons on my team. The way we beat them and had them on the ropes in the playoffs has me feeling amazing, and you would think we have the next great thing in Bryce with the way they all speak of him. I'm gonna ride that high and be a delusional fan, I hope that huddle can stick around or get fixed and perhaps I will get back to posting more now that I can log in again. I will do my best to not get banned. Keep Pounding!
