Did your parents unintentionally ever talk you out of anything?

When I was in middle school, I fantasized about skipping class.

I asked my dad if he had ever skipped school. My dad happens to be one of the most honest men on Earth, and he told me "Yea I did one time."

I wanted to know off all the glorious things my dad did when he skipped school. I had imagined drugs, parties, or some kind of unbeleiveable fun.

So I asked him what he did. He replied "It was really boring. All I did was hang out in a bathroom at the park with some of my friends and tried not to get caught."

I was deflated.

No fun. I never wanted to hang out in a bathroom full of dudes.

Because I had this conversation with my dad, I had perfect attendance my entire school career.

They unintentionally talked me out of growing up, but it happened anyway.

My mom talked me out of getting a vasectomy to spite my ex. She said something brilliant, "If you hate her so much why don't you just break up with her?"
