Peppers is staying

Gross just today said he had his fingers crossed he stays. Doesn't sound like a cancer to me. That being said, my bet is he gets traded. But I wouldn't be devastated if he stayed this year...

thats the first i've heard of that

According to some who listened to the interview. WFNZ hasn't posted it yet...

It's a possibility, and those of you who are adamant that Peppers has zero chance of remaining a Panther are delusional.

The emotions are high with Peppers right now, so it's understandable that many of you believe he's gone no matter what because you are so worked up over the whole situation. Stuff like this has happened before in the NFL, though, with players like Briggs, 85, and others.

Also, with the the erraticity of Peppers's demands over the course of this offseason, him suddenly withdrawing back into "wanting" to stay a Panther for currently unknown reasons is not impossible.

Peppers made 14 mill last year. So that means roughly 3 million more this year. Also we don't have to shell out any big bucks for another 1st round pick. We are fine. If no takers then make him play. He has to play well or it cost him big money also. Plus if he blows out a knee thats millions that got flushed down the drain. If he decides to sit, then we still don't have to pay him, plus we fine him. Its not the end of the world.

Some of you guys aren't thinking.

Peppers and his agent aren't stupid, if he tanks and takes off this season no one in there right mind would want to sign him. Or at least not for a significant amount, and Peppers will be 30 so that would also casts doubt. Peppers and his agent both know how holding out, or playing soft would hurt his value.

There are four situations I see happening. I chose the most exteme options in each of the four situations.

1

We keep him and force him to play. We are without a first round pick and any room to work with through free agency. He plays hard (even though he wants out). The D-line still does not have any talent. The defense plays simmilar to 08.

2

We keep him and he goes bananas. "If" he plays he dissapeers. Then when it's time to trade him next year we are a stuck with a 30 year old DE with severe motivational issues having 2 out of the last 3 years being total disasters. Most likely that deal would be far less than what we can get now. The defense plays worse than 08.

3

We trade him for some deal that includes a first rounder(or two?!?!) and we also have some room to sign mid level defensive lineman. With the talent we acquire on the defensive line we are able to make up for peppers leaving and may even improve. Peppers is happy and we are are happy. The defense plays the same or better than 08.

We trade him for some deal that includes a first rounder(or two?!?!) and we also have some room to sign mid level defensive lineman. Our replacements do a terrible job which keeps the defense at it's season ending performance level. Peppers goes on to break records. We all feel like crap. The defense plays the same or lesser than 08.

only problem with him sitting is that the tag would stay with the team till after week 10.

I want peppers gone in a bad bad way. But, i'm also intrigued by the aspect of him staying. Not so much that I think he may play his arse off, but rather the fact that i'm curious as to how the crowd at B.O.A. will react when they call his name out. I for one will be booing till i'm blue in the face.

I wasn't so mad at him for wanting a change of scenery, but when he and his agent began thinking they held the cards and that they had the upper hand, that soured me to the both of them. I myself, don't consider him to be a part of this team since he said he didn't want to be here.

just my .02 cents though

    • I wanted him to take over the hornets next year. He's a hard ass and I don't know if that works with 18 year olds that are getting paid. He's a good coach though
    • I mean, dude, come on. There is a huge difference between the two in only one word: explosiveness. https://www.nfl.com/prospects/kc-concepcion/3200434f-4e04-6719-61ea-f84c4a062c16     https://www.nfl.com/prospects/corey-brown/32004252-4f35-6941-7d1f-17d92e3e6054 From what I've read, Concepcion is a very explosive, twitchy, dynamic receiver. His problem has been some drops over his career; some he has to own, others have been questionable throws by the QB.  Greg Cosell said that Concepcion may be the most dynamic receiver in the draft. Steve Smith is generally positive. There have been other, perhaps less known, analysts who are more critical, but even they love everything he does before and after the catch. Concepcion gets open!     Is Concepcion perfect? No. But he does have room for growth. He's much better than a nondescript Philly Brown.
    • Here is what I see (and you can determine what it means):  Seems to be a lot of early-round attention at WR and LB.  At WR, the Z-WR (off ball, lined up on TE side, goes in motion a lot.  Can cause mismatches) seems to be the focus.  We really don't have one with Coker or XL.  I have a feeling that Concepcion or Cooper are high on the board.  This tells me they are going to grab a WR early--probably in round 1. Linebacker is most obviously and certainly the second round pick.  Rodgriquez, Hill, or Golday. The fact that there is no contact with a Center is interesting, but there are guards.  Chase Bisontis is an interesting name that stands out.  Carver Willis is a short-armed OT that could be a swing T, G, or....C.  He is very good at run blocking.  OT?  If we are drafting a T early, they sure are keeping it close to the vest.  Visits do not mean interest--it could mean they want a closer look.  Still, No top OTs, No top Centers--what is going on?  This is going to be interesting. Safety--This is interesting because the talk is that Smiith-Wade might move to FS-but that does not explain why the CBs on this list are unimpressive.  The Safeties they have listed are day 2 players, fwiw, and both were 30 visits. Edge--bottom of the roster guys. If I were to guess, based on this, here is what I would wager:   There would be a high probability of a trade back from 19.  Watch a team moving up for bama QB Simpson. Round 1: WR--Concepcion and Cooper both project to late first rounders.  Both are perfect fits for the Z WR (the WR that is not on the line of scrimmage outside the TE)  We don't have that guy right now.   I think we think the offense opens up with a strong Z WR.  MHS Prediction:  Cooper. Round 2:  LB--Hill, Golday, and Rodriguez are second-rounders.  One of them will be a Panther.  If we trade back, we could move up for a S.  MHS Prediction:  Rodriguez. NOTE: Bisontis (C) and McDonald (DT) are wild cards--if either drop in round 2, we take them and move up back into the second for the LB.  If not, we draft the LB and move back up for Haulsy (S) so we have 4 starting-caliber players on days 1 and 2.   Day 3: TE (Delp is my guess), OT (Travis Burke is my guess), CB, and DT.
