so if newton is the pick, how soon do we draft his replacement?

People get so mad when others say that we will have the opportunity to draft Luck next year. This is reality because Cam will not play this year so the #1 pick in 2012 is a real possibility.

Then we trade the pick for a kings ransom. The horror.

I can you tell you now that I will support Cam Newton if he is drafted because I am a Panther fan, but this thread is stupid. I dont just mean the post above that spells there wrong by putting in thier. I do however hope they do not select Newton. I guess because I dont want them to draft a guy and if he gets drafted I have to find a new favorite team. Yet if they dont draft him then all of you who love him have to find one as well. Am I correct in your reasoning? Guys get real here. When you take #1 over all you take a blue chip: A prospect who is set up for success with no on the field or off the field issues, and that will bring consistant play to your team for years to come.

You DONT draft the guy who is a one year wonder coming from an offense that QB's fail from miserably time after time coming into the pro game. You dont draft a guy who has off the field issues of buying stolen goods, or where you are paid to play college ball.(allegedly on the second there) You dont draft a player who has mechanic flaws coming into the pros and had less attempts than any other QB in the draft.

Seems to me some people bought into the hype of this guy.

Once again I hope he succeeds, but I dont see him working well in the NFL.

Right instead of trading the lesser prospect. brilliant.

I'm not arguing for or against. I'm saying that if we draft Newton, the FO and coach believes he can be our franchise guy. We would either trade the pick or trade Luck. Both would net us a ton of compensation.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
