Going to the dentist today what should I expect?

I'm getting my cavities filled. I've never had cavities before. What should I expect? Does it hurt? Will I feel like poo afterward?

I think they've come a long way with the pain management side of dentistry. For me, the worst part is still the noise of the drill.

you shouldn't have any adverse affects once you are done though if it's just fillings. Make sure you eat before you go incase your mouth is frozen for a while after.

Depends on your dentist Cat... mine is great. I had three filled last November and it wasn't bad at all. Honestly the numbing shot is always the worst and my dentist is really good at it, hardly felt a thing.

The sound of the drill and all is annoying, but shouldn't hurt. If it does, stop him and ask him to numb it more.

On your way home be sure you stop and get something to drink. Get it in a cup with no lid and no straw. :D

When they feel up your boobs, don't fret. That's normal and actually a dentist can get sued if he doesn't probe his patient for overall weight balance and skeletal girth.

Seriously, the last time I had cavities filled I barely remember it. It's not too bad, and as Hawk said they've come a long way into making the patient feel comfortable. You still get that feeling afterward that someone's fuged with your teeth and that sucks, and it might be numb for a little while, but it goes away.

Depending on the severity of the decay, you might have some discomfort afterwards as well as high sensitivity to hot, cold, sweets and pressure.

Just had four teeth filled a few weeks ago and I still have sensitivity issues.

I had fillings done in the late 90s early 2000s (as you can tell i was young) and felt ZERO pain. They didn't even give me a shot. No big deal really

I've had a lot of dental work done in the past couple of years and fillings are nothing to be concerned about.

You might be kinda sore afterwards and the shots will sting a little, but I wouldn't worry.

Coming from a guy who has made MANY trips to the dentist. Depends on how bad the cavity is. If it is nearing a root canal, it might hurt a little bit. If it is just a normal ol cavity, you'll be fine.

When they numb up your mouth it will freak you out at first. Hot feels cold. Cold feels hot. It's like part of your face isn't there.
