was looking for some more info on him and stumbled upon this article

http://www.examiner.com/sports-in-charlotte/pilares-believes-he-is-ready-to-contribute

His opinion on Newton:

“I always saw him on television,” Pilares said. “It is crazy what kind of physical specimen that guy is. He is huge, and he is a great quarterback. He is definitely the greatest athlete in this draft. He is a baller. He is a good football player. Just to be on the same team with that guy I’m thankful. And I’m looking forward to working out with him.”

lots more in the actual article. After reading up on this guy he's becoming my favorite pick in the draft.

If they have to let Munnerlyn start at corner, I see Pilares taking over at PR. Maybe even if Munnerlyn isn't a starter. And he may even compete with Goodson for KR.

Depending on what happens with Smitty is going to determine how much Pilares actually contibutes in the passing game. At the very least he will be Smitty's primary backup even over Amanti Edwards who will probably be fighting for a roster spot as the primary backup for Gettis. As I pointed out in another thread, this team now has three starting WR, much the same way Fox always said that the nickleback is a starter on defense. Expect at least 6 WR to make the final roster, if not more. But I think Pilares easily become the #2 Slot and #1 Slot if Smitty leaves.

im a HUUUUUUUUGEEE newton fan.. but i completely see myself getting a Pilares jersey - that kid is going to be a monster. And by god if we still have Steve Smith on this roster.. The Panthers Might go to the Superbowl - Yes i said that. Superbowl -

I have no idea why people underestimate Newton - From just checking out his highlights video - that kid seems to be an Upgraded Roethlisberger - And we have an Offensive line - new coaching staff.. Our defense beleive it or not was intact, we also have one of the best defensive co ordinators around. Matt "Ballerina" Ryan and Drew Brees will have one nasty time with that guy. Of course - we now know what that tampa kid brings - weve seen a more premium version of that "Michael Vick" so now hes a known commodity.

This team is going to be Something.

I hope he doesn't. He has a good motor and heart but I'd much rather see Gamble, Marshall, and Hogan... i think that's a stout group right there

This kid is going to go down as one of our best draft picks. I'm telling you, once I saw his name flash on the screen, I immediately thought, "this is the kind of WR that the Pats and Colts take in the later rounds"

I agree. And even if Marshall isn't back, Hogan is a carbon copy of Marshall (if not better). Good tackler, decent in coverage but not spectacular. If Hogan can cover better he'll be an upgrade. Watching his youtube videos, I LOVE his tackling.

    • Ppl want to trade Melo? Am I wrong for thinking that would be a bad idea?
    • Some of you act like one can't learn from experience over time. Just because you may not know what you're doing in 2018 doesn't mean that you don't know what you're doing in 2025. Frankly, you grow from experience, and success and excellence gives first-time applicants the hand probably 99.999% of the time.
    • It's an interesting topic of conversation as sports evolves. I think ultimately it would lead to a number of small market franchises folding though. Especially in the NBA where there are so many bad teams that have been bad for years and years in some cases already. But as it stands I think athlete pay draft or no draft aside has reached a point where we can and should realistically ask should they make that much compared to the average person. Now college athletes is a different conversation but even that reaches a breaking point. But we could go down the rabbit hole on this even further into overall entertainment and talk about actors making absurd sums too. In the end I think in sports the powers that be won't allow these changes to even be considered because it opens the door for so many other variables. But who knows how long sports like football will realistically be around after people like us pass on. We're only just now learning about things like CTE which the league and the sport in general will only be able to run away from for so long. As far as the NBA goes my understanding is viewership has been steadily going down for a number of reasons but one crucial aspect is key players missing so many games. The NBA has to figure that out regardless. Especially when considering fans who pay to see these athletes compete in person. But hey I guess let's just try to appreciate what we've got while it still exists in this form eh?
