Cam Wants #2 Jersey From Clausen

This is an invented controversy. Cam hasn't demanded anything, nor emphatically said he wants 2.

Why are people, i.e. the press, always trying to drag him down? Do your yourselves a favor, and ignore this kind of stuff until you have verified it's true.

Edit: Not sure if the facebook page or the twitter account are actually his. I know that as of a couple of weeks ago, Whitfield stated that Cam was not on any social networking site. Also saw Nick Fairley tweet back in February that the Cam twitter accounts were fake. FWIW

I think it's because one guy (the guy with the coveted #) went full retard for an entire season and one guy (who wants said #) has been red hot for two pre-pro seasons; but I'm not sure. If Clausen looked like he could play, I don't think Cam would be here and coming for his job, or the number on his back.

I'm not looking at how they played. But Jimmy has a number, he has no need to pick another one.

Newton pays Jimmy for #2. Jimmy gives money to charity.

Jimmy gets #7. He and Cam compete for the starting gig.

Baker gets a new number because he's a damn punter. It speaks volumes when we say HE was our MVP last year. A punter should never be your MVP.

should never

agreed

but he in many ways was...he's a pretty good punter

I've never heard so many opinions about a fuging number..

it doesn't mean poo if Clausen gives it up. It means money talks or Clausen really wanted to wear number 7.

That's the bottom line....Money Talks, Most everything's for sale if the price is right.

I dont care if Jimmy Jam was here first He's done absolutely nothing at this point to have that right to be picky. He's lucky he still has a team to attend training camp for. The Coaches and Panther leadership want Newton as the face of the franchise. Let Jimmy Jam have # 13 and a head set

i do NOT care if Newton is the number one overall pick the FACT is that it's CLAUSEN'S number, NOT Newton's. if Newton wants it so bad, he will pay up, but if he doesnt, Clausen is number 2 and Newton wont have a number. Just because Newton was the first pick does NOT mean he should be entitled to things. i felt the same way about Reggie Bush when he wanted to wear the number 5, just because a player is a media favorite or a future franchise player does not mean he should be given things. As of now Clausen is 2 and if Newton doesnt want to pay for it, he can wear another number.

i agree. it's not about how they play. Portis wasnt given the number 26 for free, he had to pay a backup safety for it when he went to Washington. Jimmy has a number and he has no need to pick another one, like the old saying goes, money talks and i think he would give it up if given some money. the only way Clausen loses his number is if he's released (possible) or him and Cam make a deal (also possible).

How about we let Cam, Clausen, and Baker settle this with a no-holds barred grudge match for the first ever Huddle Video podcast.

hahaha personally, i think people are making too big a deal out of nothing anyways, Cam said he would like the number, but it's not like he demanded it and Clausen didnt say, he can NEVER have the number. most likely if Cam asks for it and gives Clausen money, he gets the number.

    • Derrick Brown was one player I never called or even suggested was a bust . Dude was young and hadn't even hit his stride. It takes time to learn the position. The thing I appreciated about him is that he kept improving season after season. He got paid and keeps on going like the Energizer Bunny.
    • How many teams coddle their QB the way Bryce has been coddled? I have never seen any other team in the NFL EVER baby a QB the way that Bryce has been.  Bryce was named day 1 starter his first year. It was obvious he didnt deserve it. He wasnt ready as evidenced by the worst rookie year in NFL history.  So let's move to year 2. He's named starter again with no competition in TC and is benched 2 games later. We have the ghost of a backup in Dalton who is so bad he can only beat Vegas and let's remember, the only reason he lost his starting job was a car accident, not because Bryce actually beat him out in practice.  And year 3. We sign Dalton again, who already proved he couldn't be depended on to put an even remotely passable performance on the field, and bring back Jack Plummer, who was even worse than last year. It was obvious he was nothing more than a pretend body in an attempt to create an illusion of some type of attempt to find a backup.  Then we start again with garbage play again and Bryce gets benched with a phantom injury, and the ghost of the ghost of Dalton breaks his thumb on the first drive and craps the field all over again. If we had actually made an attempt to find a legitimate QB2, it's possible Bryce doesn't step on the field again. Bryce is not agood QB and if we had any other mediocre QB, our record would be the same or better.  Bryce is not entrenched. He's been placed, protected and sheltered from ever having to face a  real QB competition in TC. Richardson and Levis both were ass and both were benched and eventually replaced.  Do I expect Baker to face competition in camp? Sure. I expect Tampa to find the best QB2 they can at price that fits their cap and resources and system and get him up to speed. If he's better than Baker, and if he's better by a significant margin, that's best for the team. The ultimate goal is a Super Bowl. Bellichek was constantly getting QB2s with the GOAT as his starter. He knew the value and that was realized when Cassell led them to an 11-5 record as a backup.  You and I may think differently than the people that matter but I will say it again. If you're afraid to bring in a capable backup, especially after the debacle of last year. The starting role wasn't earned, it was given, and that's loser mentality.
    • I would have done the same thing.  LSU is a much better job than Ole Miss.  Plus the enormous contract and every advantage a college team can offer in terms of recruiting and facilities and tradition etc
