New 2012 NFL Mock Draft

If there isn't football, and we're all in the same order again, the Panthers either take Luck and let him and Newton fight it out, or they make a historical trade for someone's entire draft. What they won't do is pick someone else first.

There will be a season and we will have a top 10 pick but it won't be the 1st pick.

I think we'll most likely take the best WR or DT available next year. Even if we don't trade Smitty we have to give Cam a top notch recieving threat. I like the 2 DT's we got this year but we need a really, really good DT.

Hightower is a good pick for San Diego, I wish they would've addressed it better in this last draft, but if everyone comes back (including Butler, who was on IR last year), it may not matter.

As far as CB's go, I'm not sure we're gonna go in that direction. We took Gilchrist and Wright with the hopes that they'll be part of the CB rotation with Jammer and Cason. They stay on the right track and I won't see it being a need. But if an Amukamara type falls to us - we may bite, even though we didn't on Amukamara himself.

Tackle is something to keep an eye on. After Kaeding, Clary's probably the least liked Charger by the fans, so we won't shed a tear if he leaves. Regardless, if him or Dombrowski are a mess on the right side, then it may get addressed.

Don't forget about WR, especially if VJ leaves. Given AJ's history to making big moves to get players he wants (Weddle, Mathews), I wouldn't put it past him to trade into the Top 10 for Jeffery or Blackmon.

Luck or trade or Luck then trade.

Competition? Taking a QB #1 overall should mean you have full confidence in the QB being the future. The panther would get the most out of the pick by trading compared to any other scenario.

    • He has attempted 8 shootout goals in his NHL career and made 1. He is among our worst SO guys on the entire roster in terms of career stats.
    • Against Miami, the Panthers were behind by 17 in the 2nd quarter facing a 4th - 5. Young completed a 21 yard pass and they went on to score 7 on that drive. Then in the 4th, down by 4, they faced a 4th - 5 and again, he completed a 17 yard pass and they went onto score a TD for the win. He also accounted for 2 of the 3 TD's.  As I said, he got them in that mess and no doubt, Rico gets credit as well, but missing on either of those 4th down conversions hands the ball over and results in 1 or 2 less TD's giving them a loss. As you said though, that's just a small quibble. The real question is how does the FO see it?  I am guessing they see it as something to build on. I think most peope here see it as a total loss and fully expect the FO to see it that way as well. Time will tell.
    • Kochetkov is just too streaky. TBD if Freddie is doing that too. Freddie is the more reliable goalie over his career. The Bussi kid looks like he could be a solid #2 eventually.  Just need to figure out the #1 guy. Same as almost every year. It's not talent, it's consistency and being able to step up in the playoffs.
