Squirrels

So I ran over a squirrel today and feel quite bad about it. I was looking at my radio for a brief second and when I looked back to the road it was too late. Heard a thud and knew what had happened. Seems there are more squirrels than usual this year. I have slammed on the breaks a few times to dodge them this season.

It's actually my first time running over an animal (or at least doing it and knowing about it. I suppose it could've happened without my knowledge previously). Not a good feeling at all. Screw global warming. This is me directly harming my environment. It registers with me on a much deeper level.

Do you guys have any sob stories similar to this one? Please share. Lets get it off our chests.

I blew the head off of one yesterday from 50 yards. I was leaving them alone when they were just eating bird seed, but now they are breaking my bird feeders and getting into my shed and eating things. They are now live targets. I didnt know how much fun it is to line up and squeeze the trigger on them. I suggest doing it at your house.

I shot a deer.. he tasted great.

It's weird how life works. I imagine if I was in a less privileged area of the world I might have stopped the car and gathered the squirrel for food later. These days a lot of us have no interest in hunting animals or seeing them hunted and are actually quite disgusted by it.

Still, I eat animals without a second thought. It's an interesting detachment we've developed. When it's on the dinner plate you don't see it as its former self, but when you are with an animal or see it living, you can only hope to see the animal live its existence without any suffering.

My mental health on the subject matter is even worse than most. I personally won't eat anything that I find to be ugly in real life. I want eat shrimp, crabs, oysters, octopus, squid, eel etc because I find their physical appearance to be disgusting. To me eating such things is the same as people in poor areas in China eating insects.

On the other hand if an animal is too attractive I won't eat it either. Rabbits, Deers, Cats, Squirrels, horses, etc. I wouldn't dare eat them.

I'll only eat the tweeners like cows, chickens, turkey, etc. Makes no sense at all. Perfect example of how people are easily brainwashed by their surroundings. I'll only eat the common meats in this society. Otherwise it either disgusts me or makes me feel as though I'm doing something morally wrong.

so very true.. god forbid a disaster happen on US soil (or even, no oil without a backup solution implemented in time) were to happen, I am very sure majority of Americans will have no concept of how to survive. and to think, humans who can't survive based on the most simple methods for 10's of thousands of years..

a lot of people would scoff at the idea that bottled water could be a detriment, but is it that crazy of an idea?

even tap water and anti-bacterial soap has confined our bodies to a base line that nature would chew up and spit out.

I forget the channel and name, but it was about what would happen without oil. and so I was talking to my dad about what would you do if this happened? take away food lion, etc and how would you fend for yourself? without gas, you're SOL. how many millions of people would have no f**king idea how to survive in that circumstance? think of all the IT people, lol

I like that. I usually use my .22 to shoot them but I dont have a scope on it. Maybe I will go get on this afternoon. How far can you shoot with your scope?

    • In your opinion. What do you think Moton's true value in contract, dollars and guarantees? If we had not extended him, what is your plan for RT in 27 and 28? How important are good offensive linemen for our current offense? How much value do you put on protecting Bryce at this stage of his career? How difficult in general do you think finding above average tackles in the NFL is?
    • The Falcons have 2 significant offensive line injuries to start the 2025 season. Right tackle Kaleb Mcgary (who is the blindside protector for Penix since he is left-handed) is going to miss significant time, and it's looking more like it may be all season. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/falcons-expect-kaleb-mcgary-to-miss-significant-time https://x.com/BKsquared7/status/1959285822236107013. Also, the top backup and swing tackle, Storm Norton (cool name BTW) is having ankle surgery and may miss half the season. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/falcons-ot-storm-norton-out-6-8-weeks-after-ankle-surgery I don't root for injuries, but its also hard to be too sympathetic given how badly injuries have hit us in recent years. We definitely need to get that W in week 3 for our home opener at BOA. Despite our collective frustration at not being able to attend TC and then having boring preseason games, ultimately the most important objective of the preseason is to enter Week1 healthy, and we have at least done that. Hopefully the depth we think we have at Oline either shines through or isn't needed. Many other teams are in a bad spot with their offensive lines before the season even starts. For once, we aren't in that situation.
    • That roster was billed as a super smart and strong unit for a young QB….until he sucked though.   it didn’t have superstars but it had proven vets that checked well all the safe boxes and it was universally agreed the Panthers were putting him into position to succeed. BY just doesn’t fit a traditional O because he isn’t built like a traditional QB.  And he still doesn’t.   CJ Stroud would have had more success here than Bryce with that cast.   CJ just has the tools that fit the NFL more easily.  Young can find success but I have always argued it would take a Bryce centric plan (which we have never attempted IMO)
