Floyd would be a better pick up than Rice.

Rice has had one.5 good years how much of that was b/c of Farve.

Honestly with all the young WR talent we have do we need another WR if Smith stays ?

Smith, Gettis, Lafell, AE, Hawaii dude, and a Free Agent ?

Coefield would be my choice easily.

Comes from a great D-Line already.

Membane keeps getting thrown around, but I haven't seen him do anything special.

Best FA out there is Ngata, I would rather have him over anyone, even Aso.

Manning isn't a FA (well he is, but yeah)

My concern with Rice would be that hip.. I know there is nothing to base this on, but if that becomes a recurring problem (or triggers a degenerative response), he's only going to have a few decent years (if injuries don't keep him off the field for most of them)...

I do like that he played with good technique in his one good year.. Favre may have had something to do with it (like throw it up regardless if he's open), but he did show he can make those grabs and position his body well enough to beat a corner.

I'd take Holmes over him in a second though.

why would I want a FA WR if Smitty stays? I don't feel Smitty's career is far from over and worst case scenario he has every bit of talent of Hines Ward, if not more. I think he'll be just fine for a number of years. (people blow me away with speed is his only asset... I mean, really? LOL)

with that said, I want a young #1 receiver in conjunction with Smitty.. Gettis has shown real potential, LaFell didn't look too bad either. "Hawaiian dude" and Edwards could become real threats with the ball in their hand, especially if Hawaiian dude can run some true NFL routes on a consistent basis.

having 6 or 7 years of a young #1 receiver would benefit us greatly so that if Smitty becomes plagued with injuries and our other receivers are just #2 and 3 all their career, we have lost nothing.

I feel with the cap room we potentially may have (assuming this pans out), having a true #1 will provide us with that much more of an edge for our rookie QB who may need all the help he can get... I don't see us losing anything, with everything to gain.

The fact rice went to the other USC is my point.

He is fluff at this point. IMO.

Not to mention coming off an injury.

Steve Smith came off an injury from 2004 in 2005 .. Triple Crown ?

Edit for teh kurbs realization: Not saying Rice will triple crown , just that one injury shouldn't send you running for the hills.

Yes that is totally what will happen.

I remember where steve was considered a bust pretty much his entire career up to that point as well....

If Rice is reasonably cheap I wouldn't have a huge issue with it.

If he wants real $$$ he can GFTO

Let me get this straight. You believe there ain't be a bidding war for rice? Or that he won't think he's worth top $?

He's not going to come cheap.

I believe his value is highly over-hyped on this board because he played a South Carolina.

agree 100%

Aso is probably the best corner in the league. He would upgrade our already pretty decent secondary here in Carolina very nicely. Asomugha would look even better in Carolina than he did in Oakland because of a better team and MUCH better coaching under Mcdermott and Rivera.

For offense, Holmes is the best WR on the market. He has always reminded me of the way that steve smith plays the game. Has a big play ability, and can stretch the feild, and he isnt afraid to go across the middle either. He would be an important weapon for Cam.

Santonio and smitty on the field together would be fantastic, assuming that Cam has something to bring to the table this year for a passing game. If smith decides to leave this year, which i hope he doesnt, santonio would be a lock for the biggest need on the team.

If free agents from carolina count in this discussion, I think that Deangelo williams would continue to play a major role in our offense as well.

Deangelo has always been a big playmaker, and compliments with Stewart very nicely in a record breaking kind of way. I think it is important to have more than one good RB in this league, especially if we end up with an 18 game season. Plus, we may need to rely heavily on the run game this year to help Cam.

truth.. why anyone would pass that up is beyond me.. hoping our unproven players can live up to that? nah, we can have both... (if our coaches and cap can make it happen)

First off... Y'all are acting like you didn't see that game with Santanio's "supposed" clutch catch... His right toe NEVER touched... I'm just sayin'. Clearly tucked under his left cleat about an inch off the turf...

Anyways, the obvious FA choice is Aso... But NJ panther already pretty much said to fogetaboutit... So that's over. We need a Shutdown Corner for this division to shut down these "elite" QB's.

Definitely need a big time DT or two...

I would love to see Chris Harris back, but that prolly won't happen. He was a BEAST though.

For once... I Definitively have the utmost faith in our franchise to get the missing pieces to the puzzle. That within itself is a huge step forward.

Let the chips fall where they may... It won't matter. We are playoff bound either way!

GO Motherfuggin PANTHERS!!!

our options right now are 10X better than Chris Harris.. I appreciate what he did at first, but I feel we upgraded...

True statement... His coverage skills were suspect as hell, but that dude layed the wood!!! Plus he still keeps up with this team and is constantly talking good bout our D.

No doubt we've upgraded. Depth wouldn't hurt though ;-)

    • They can get film of all the games? Every team? Wow! Who knew… Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
