An In-depth Sidney Rice and Wide Receiver Thread

Recommended Posts

Im not sure the OP actually watches football.

He must not at all. Geez...aren't we a bunch of idiots trying to simply discuss a player. Sorry that our discussion is not at your intellectual capacity and you just had to intervene to let us know.

Why are you trying to bash people's knowledge rather than simply having a normal discussion about the guy?

It actually is when Moss and Welker had the Patriots in the Super Bowl undefeated.

it actually isn't when I just pointed out several franchises in the same situation last year. it actually isn't when 1 of those teams is the one you're making a point with. lol

And "the organization" and new coaching staff reviews tape from last year and sees two young receivers who exceeded expectations by all means considering the situation they were thrown into. Oh and both of these young receivers fit the "tall/athletic" mold that the franchise believes we "need." Then the organization saves its money and signs FAs that fill holes immediately.

But what if one of those guys goes down or even Smith goes down? Do you want Cam to have to go through the same stuff Jimmy went through? Jimmy was throwing to two rookie receivers for the most of his rookie season and while both showed promise only Gettis has displayed starting capability and the Panthers need a proven starter which is exactly what Rice is.

the biggest problem with a large USC fan base is that not only are they slobbering homers (just wait until Stephen Garcia comes/gets kicked out) but they're also not terribly bright. They might be the 2nd best college in south carolina but keep in mind their students are just 1 rejection letter away from like South Carolina State or Wofford.

South Carolina fan: A Stephen Garcia sucks ... B Garcia is a cancer , and C What is up with you and trashing USC .. if you're a tater , i'm so very sorry that the slightly better sidney rice took a dump on your school the past 2 years ... The fact is he's 24 years old and the one time he was given a starting spot he lit it up.You're telling me that brett favre is the reason he is good ? Look at half the catches he made , he had to dive/reach over peoples heads / and turn around mid stride and catch without being able to see the ball.. Show me 10 catches he was able to just look over his shoulder. Chill sir.. Chill

The point is Rice can play ball and whether you choose to recgonize that or not is your opinion but he definitely has shown the ability to be a big time wide out and if you need some convincing get off the porn websites and hit youtube.

There are 2 points really. Rice can play ball. Rice is injury prone.

Then you expect players who you have invested draft picks and time coaching into to step up and make plays. Regardless of the unwarranted optimism, I can almost guarantee we will not be going from worst to first this season. This is the first step in the rebuilding process. I just tend to think you need to know exactly what you have at a position prior to making big signings and sending shock waves through a depth chart.

If one or maybe two of our young guys proves he can be a starter in this league for years to come, and with the aging Smith, you draft a stud or fill the hole next season in FA. Cam doesn't necessarily need his WR core for his time here to be determined in one season. That is just unrealistic. He is going to get plenty of time to gel and grow accustom to our young guys, just as they will benefit from catching his balls over and over.

I know that but Cam needs more help than Jimmy got?

    • I agree the free agent class is thin but with all the draft capital Tulsky has I expect some big trades as well
    • I mean we haven't had a winning season in going on 8 years we have had the worst win percentage in all of sports the last few years and we spent most of last summer arguing with each other on whether to be hyped or cautiously optimistic. To the point he was trying to moderate the discourse all throughout training camp. The staff then decided to hold the starters out of preseason until the very end and we started off the season with two of the ugliest losses in franchise history. Yet apparently in his mind the problem is....the fans who are justifiably apprehensive to buy the hype again before seeing some consistency in actual games? I don't see anything remotely unreasonable about it and it certainly doesn't make anyone any less of a fan or inferior to someone else unless that someone is mentally ill.
