For those who have a garden

The reason I grow a garden is to GIVE the grocery store a huge EFF YOU. Mine taste better and I grow them from seeds that I kept from the previous harvest, so I revel in it.

I've considered keeping my seeds but I like growing different varieties every year so it just wouldn't work. How many generations are your seeds?

Honestly, it depends. If I eat something that I think tastes particularly good, then I'll keep some seeds from it. Some of my maters, I've been growing year over year for over 7 years!

They try to grow but do so unsuccessfully. There are some tough ones that try to grow but I've laid the fabric in such a way where I can lift it and and I just pull them out. There's an oak tree nearby that had a huge acorn harvest last year so I have some baby oak trees trying to grow in it but I pull them up. I have not put any mulch on top of the fabric either, I've just tacked it down with landscape pins. I'm planning on rolling it up an using it again next year. Basically all the weeding I have to do is in the holes where the plants are growing but when the plants get large enough the weeds don't tend to grow because they cant get adequate sunlight. Weeding takes me about 10 minutes once a week.

We have a garden every year. We just harvested over 2 bushels of red potatoes. We have harvested over 5 bushels of lettuce and 2 bushels of garlic so far. We plant a winter garden in the fall. We have about 100pepper plants and maybe 20 bell pepper plants (red, orange and green) - my wife sun dries them, grinds them and makes her own pepper paste. We retain seeds and replant from seed each year.

By no means totally free like you said - but it serves more purpose than just sticking it to the grocery store. We both work, so our time in the garden each afternoon is our "wind down" time. We chat about junk - its a stress reliever.

Oh, it's definitely not free. Like anything, it just feels better when you made it with your own hands.

It's the same way my friend thought his first home brew batch, which tasted like poo, was super awesome.

My father-in-law has been teaching me everything he knows about gardening the last two years. He recently had triple bypass surgery so I have been responsible for taking care of the garden by myself for the most part. Gardens are a lot of work but worth it in my opinion... Plus I get to spend time with him so that is a bonus.

He has cucumber seeds that have been in his family for five generations... They are the little white ones.

The key to weed control is tilling the garden in my opinion... It seems like there are less and less weeds every year too.

Don't fug up my peaceful thread with your feelings of revenge. But if you really wanted to do some damage, you could drop some Pramitol on it. It'll kill it and nothing else will grow back for a long time. Make sure you don't put it around your stuff or else the run off could kill it too. The best thing to do is find out why he shot at your dog. If it's because his neighbor is an ass and lets his dog run around the neighborhood unleashed then maybe he should've shot at the neighbor instead.
