Dogs and Children

There's just something special about the two together. I remember my first dog as a child and the memories that stay with me today. When I see my sons and our pup playing it warms my heart. They jump on him, wrestle him down, and he lays there with almost a smile on face. He was 8 weeks old when we brought him home. When he was 6 weeks we went to the breeder to pick out a pup and pay the deposit. Out of a litter of 9 he was the first to run up to my then 4 year old and sit in his lap. He was the one. Here's a couple of pics that just make me happy to look at.

no pics, but similar story...we picked our dog out when he was only 4 weeks old...my daughter was about 10 months old. We live on an acreage with an extremely large fenced back yard and those two would spend hours back there together. He wouldn't really follow her per se...but he was never more than 20 feet away either! Now he's getting close to 10, his vision is almost gone and he's pretty old for a big dog. I've got a cat that I wish would just go away, but I'm gonna be a mess the day the big dog has to go.

This is the only pic I have of either of my kids with the dog.. I tried to get them to ride the big mutt, but she just stood there when the kids were on her back... They love their dog, ask about here when we're gone for a day or 2...

We got our dog 2.5 years ago Christmas. Before then she always begged us for a dog but we weren't ready to make that commitment. When we finally decided to get a dog I did lots of research on what kind of dog would complement our family. We found a breeder & got ourselves a mini dachshund. On Christmas morning, she lifted the blanket off the crate and looked at us and said "I thought you said we couldn't have a dog".
