Edwards to Carolina?

I'll say this, I really think we will be surprised by the play of both Gettis and LaFell this season. As much as I'd like to add a receiver like Braylon, I think Gettis is roughly the same thing (he's 6'3", was a college sprinter, and can attack the ball at it's highest point) with a QB not scared to let it rip deep I think between Smith and Gettis we could finally see some more explosive plays. Especially with Chud's emphasis on vertical passing (ala San Diego).

With LaFell and Pilares (I think he'll beat out Armanti in camp) working the middle/underneath routes along with Shockey, I feel reason to be fairly optimistic about our passing game without the addition of a Free Agent.

:iagree:

We already have a posession WR with a reputation for inconsistency in LaFell w/o the attitude. I expect our present corps of WR to be very successful in Chud's offense, especially if Smith remains in the fold.

The Jets will resign Holmes. Let it go already. I can see us bringing in someone though because even if Smith stays he won't be here for much longer. Smith, Lafell, Gettis, Pilares, and A.Edwards sounds like we can add some experience in there.

I really think Pilares was drafted as Smith's eventual replacement and Plan B if Edwards doesn't pan out. With that said, I wouldn't have a problem going into the season with our present WR corps, especially is Smith stays on. If Smith leaves, I still wouldn't touch B. Edwards or P. Burress. Both will command big contract yet both are aging and have reputations for inconsistent play. I'm not sure these players fit our youth movement anyway. I'd rather go with a veteran castoff from another team if we need experience.

No way.....you don't draft a 5th round WR out of the Hawaii offense to replace someone who was one of the best WRs in the game for a period.

Pilares is quick and looks to translate into a slot position.....but isn't physical enough or good enough to think about Smitty's role in the NFL. I mean being small doesn't even come close to suggesting he could replace the role Smitty has occupied.

People keep talking about this kid but he will be lucky to make the active roster.....

I am thinking Chud would love to have Vincent Jackson back.. if Jackson doesn't get tagged, I think we will be in the market for his services.

I agree with both of these post. I think our WR's actualy have the potential to be a good group unlike the Jarrett, Colbert and Carter groups before. I'd like for us to get V. Jax if he became a free agent and got his act together, but only if he can keep it together which I'm not too sure of.

Chud was the tight end coach in San Diego, so why do people keep using that as an example of his emphasis on vertical passing? Am I missing something?

exactly, Chuld emphasis really relates fairly well to what John Fox believed in. Granted, Chud uses the TE more to do it.....be the concept is really pretty similar. Pound the rock......get the playaction to bite.....and go for the big ones downfield.
