Seems like a pretty big deal for a guy with one big year. I was pretty pissed after Will Smith was given a similiar contract with him being even more of a proven commodity.

Don't worry about it. Johnson's age/potential and what he has done in limited time warrants that contract, not to mention to keep him out of a Falcons uniform.

Most DE's don't make immediate impacts. CJ entered the league at 21, he has been consistently improving every year. He is a 25 year old DE that just put up carreer #'s with NO help anywhere else on the line until about the last 3 games when Hardy finally got to start.

The Panthers had 3 options, because they need some DL help. Sign CJ to a huge "no one is going to match this" contract and lock him up long term. Let CJ walk to a division rival and overpay to get either A) a guy who played opposite a great pass rusher and still only got about 8 sacks a year for the last two years, or B) a guy that is 31 years old and finally had a decent year as a pass rusher last year.

Give me CJ and his "overpayed" ass all day.
