We could have the best 'Ace' formation in the NFL

holy poo. Can you imagine? If this OL is back to speed, then you have Olsen on one side, Shockey on the other, Both of our RB's are back in the fold, Steve smith is back...whew!!

I really think we must go with the 'Ace' as our base formation esp. with this rookie QB. Wow, just fuging WOW!

I suspect we will see lots of 12, 21, 22, and 11 personnel groupings this year. The ace formation is simply one of the many options available in either 12 or 11 personnel groupings. (for those not familiar with the terms, the first number refers to the number of running backs in a play and the second one refers to the number of TEs. If you count 5 players on the line and the quarterback makes 6 total, add in the running backs and tight ends, that tells you how many receivers are left when you subtract from 11.) So in 12 personnel you have 2 wide receivers and in 11 personnel you have 3 wide receivers. In 10 personnel you have a single running back, no tight end and 4 wide receivers.

For those who care..................

I have been wanting to see the Panthers run out of single back sets for awhile now. Deangelo is a threat inside and out and can catch, Stewart ran from a singleback formation in college.

I think that it would really help out having a rookie QB and being able to disguse run/pass plays with that formation.

See I am thinking in the 11 we will see olsen or Shockey (most likely olsen) split in the slot off the LOS with shockey still on the line.

    • This is one of my key concerns lost in the sauce that is the neverending conversation about him evading pressure and the OL. Eventually any QB is going to have to step up into the pocket and show the defense they can still beat them even if they get through. We have a limited QB who cannot consistently do this and as such we are relegated to going back and forth about how successful he was at evading pressure but we have little else to write home about. Tyler Shough stepped up into the pocket and made plays despite being pressured and sacked. He's played in about 35 less games than Bryce Young. That is a problem. And isn't just going to go away. The Bucs are going to do the same thing after watching the film.
    • Oh, absolutely! That doesn't absolve the absolute dogshit hockey that the team played in front of him, though. Only Cane that played well tonight was Bradly Nadeau.
    • Thanks for illustrating my point.  No one in the last several pages of this discussion is suggesting we should hang on to him, but anytime someone says anything less than "take him out back and shoot him" you act like they are. That's either you not understanding what you're reading or just being a nimrod because you can't keep up. (I would have said 'or just sh-tposting' but you're way too emotional on this topic for that) Either way, the result is the same 😆
