Reports already saying Asante Samuel available for trade, should we go get?

sounds like the eagles want players not picks..according to Peter King...we'd have to give up someone we aren't willing to part with.

They need an MLB badly, we have a good one that is a backup. Sounds like a match made in heaven.

And I don't think Burney can cover the slot, pretty sure he ran a 4.71 40 at the combine, most of the slot guys in the NFL are speed merchants.

Edit: Just saw this on twitter, didn't wanna double post.

RT @Jeff_McLane: The #Eagles have already received calls from teams interested in trading for CB Asante Samuel, per NFL sources.

*Crossing Fingers* hope we are one of them.

Asante Samuel is already 30 years old i think i would pass.

30 year old who was statistically the best corner in the NFL last year. Elite corners adapt their game to losing a step, getting weaker, w/e. Like I said before, look at Ronde Barber(36) and Charles Woodson(34) alone.

Already gave up a 3rd next year, not a good idea to ship out all your draft picks when you're rebuilding. Samuel is too old anyway.

But.............. Connor for DRC straight up, make it happen.

That would mean they traded Kevin Kolb for an unproven LB and 2nd round pick. DRC is probably the best young CB in the NFL, why would they get rid of him when they can build long term. Asante will likely be good for another 4-5 years, but DRC will probably be good for 10. Once again, Dan Connor and a 2nd round pick for Asante and a 3rd, I would be all over that. Also granted that we can get Asante to sign an extention/restructure his current deal.

I think that unless we can give up a cheap pick or 2 for say 2013, I say no way. He's a great player, but just as Rivera said yesterday, this team is built around the younger guys and built through the draft. A year or two maybe this year a lil bit well be a force to be reckoned with. We need a CB but not one that requires giving up a lot in return.

young guys also need players around them that know what the hell they are doing..and samuel is one of the best at his craft..but we also might not be willing to give up enough like you are saying.

You can be a team built through youth and still pick up an excellent, experienced player to fill a giant hole.

Yeah, if it were that easy. But it's not. The Eagles will want too much and it just isn't worth it. For the right price it'd be awesome, but that just flat out isn't going to happen. We would have to trade our way right out of a good draft next season, and probably lose a player.

Samuel is a great player no doubt and I would love to have him opposite Gamble, would make us a top secondary in the NFL. I say if the deal is reasonable, do it. JR did say hed open the wallet this year.
