"I don't know what I did, but it worked."

TBH I think it had to do more with his Wife and Family. Smith is def a Devoted Husband and Father and if they wanted to split he would have been gone. If his wife's health would have been worse he would have retired, simple as that. Cam may have given Smith more of a reason but I doubt it was the deciding one.

This. I think it came down to a family decision.

The point of the post was that Cam is acting right now, and every once in a while he slips into the person that he has always been. But listen, I'm not complaining. If the guy comes in and wins games like he did at Auburn he can be as self-centered (edit: "sarcastic") as he wants. All I'm saying.. is if he goes out and doesn't win games... you will look back and see that the clues were all there.

Cam knows what he needs to do to win over other players. He often shows that he is extremely confident, perhaps bordering on arrogant, at least by appearance.

People beat me up in the offseason for saying Cam did not seem genuinely humble, but I really don't give a poo if he is or not. If he can back his attitude up with his play, if he can learn from his mistakes and accept them as his own (which I think he can) then I don't care if the guy is arrogant or thinks he "owns the place." It may cause complications down the line but frankly I'm not going to fret over it right now.

Cam isn't perfect, big deal. He looks like he's having fun and enjoying himself, like he's fitting in. We already know many of the older veterans enjoy having him around, and unlike last year with Clausen, our players aren't needing to vehemently deny rumors they aren't getting along because videos are showing that they appear to in fact be getting along very well.

I really didn't like the quote. I understand Cam was reaching out to Smith to stay, but it's very far-fetched to say he was the sole reason Smith changed his mind. Richardson and Hurney, along with the new coaches, deserve most the credit for Smith staying, but that's just from my point of view.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
