What do you think about the Derek Anderson signing?

Recommended Posts

yeah, but people need to realize that he didnt duplicate that one good year and i dont see that happening, he's too much of a gunslinger who throws bad picks. Anderson starting just doesnt sound like a good option.

Maybe the guys on staff think they can have him duplicate that year.

If he gets put in we just have to hope we see the good year version of Anderson.

Trust me, we wont, if he starts, it's going to be a long year and then we also have NO trade value for Clausen.

i think jake would have brought more to the table from a mentor standpoint

Maybe. BUT there are two problems with it.

One, it makes it seem like we haven't moved passed Fox's team. Fox is gone. Jake's time has passed. I felt the same way when Kasey was cut.

Second, this off-season is shorter than normal. Guys have little time to learn the offense this time around. To throw a rookie QB in his first year is risky regardless. Under these circumstances... it's almost insane!!!

Derek knows the offense we plan on running and is familiar with Chudzinski and his style. It makes perfect sense to sign him. As long as he accepts the fact that Newton is our future, and I'm sure he does, this signing feels right!!!

Jake would be as clueless as anybody else under this new system. Derek knows it and can do a good job of explaining it to Cam.

What makes you think Clausen will be worth anything more than a flaming bag of poo?

In this or any other lifetime?

He has and never will have any trade value, Matt Moore had more value than Clausen.

Uh, if he surprises when/if he starts then he has trade value and seriously, WHY keep him!!!!??? if he has NO trade value, why dont you just flat out release him and let Cam have number 2????? there has to be a reason they kept him

I'm excited about the signing. He had his best year under Chud and he went to the probowl.

He could either have a few decent games before Cam comes in. (Which would be good)

He could totally eat poo and then Cam comes in. (Big Deal)

He could play really well and help make us competitive this year and give Cam/Jimmy time to sit and learn.(Excellent)

Either way I'm sure we didn't break the bank for the guy and he has to be better than Tony Pike.

Are you saying that the Panthers only keep people who have trade value?

You keep him for depth just like any other backup, most 2nd and 3rd string QB's have no trade value, just clipboard holding value.

Were not the Eagles or Patriots and were not dealing with Cassel or Kolb.

So you keep a 2nd round pick who SOME teams want as a 3rd string clipboard holder while you start a QB who NO one wants in Anderson. yeah, not wise, Why not just cut Clausen and give the 3rd QB job to Tony Pike??? Why not re-sign Moore and have him as the 3rd string???

You probably should direct those questions to our front office personnel.

He's a 2nd round QB who will be backing up a 1st round QB when said 1st round QB is ready.

It doesn't matter if Anderson or Cam starts the season, Clausen's long term future is being a backup.

I got a better question for you though.

Why would a new coach put his first season on the line with a shitty Clausen (who he didn't even draft) when he could have a guy he did draft or a guy the OC is familiar with?

Maybe Clausen improves maybe he doesn't but a GREATLY improved Clausen is still merely backup level material.

First off, i know his future (IN CAROLINA) is as a backup. As for the question to why, it's simple, see if he improves and if he doesnt give the job to Cam, short and simple, kinda the same deal that happened with Brees and Rivers. Brees was going to be replaced with Rivers in San Diego and had a surprise year. if Brees failed then the job would've been Rivers' sooner. that's why, see if Clausen improves, if he doesnt, give it to Newton.

You think we have a Brees/Rivers situation on our hands?
