choose 5 WRs, 3 TEs, 3 RBs, 2 FBs....

I think if the coaches had much faith in our TEs from last season, I doubt they would've gotten both Shockey AND Olsen. That leaves Barnidge very few opportunities to see the field. And if they think having a 3rd TE/FB in Hartsock would be more valuable to the team than Barnidge's couple of looks on the field every now and then, I have no problem with that decision.

Looking at the roster, they could cut either Jason Williams or Lawerence Wilson so that we only have 6 LBs instead of 7 in order to make room for Barnidge. But linebacker is important to our coaches. Wilson was our draft pick, but Williams will be better insurance in case of injury since Wilson is a rookie. Besides I think they would want 7 since it's unknown how long Davis will last. So I don't see either getting cut. They could keep only 4 DTs instead of 5 as well, but we all know that due to our current and past situations there we most likely will keep 5.

From my view, it seems like he was pushing Gettis and Lafell. But maybe I'm just being unreasonable, not considering what was our best option.
that is the thing that is tough for me as well. i get attached to the idea of someone's potential and get pissed that someone could take their chance to shine when i just need to be concerned with the team winning games regardless of who it is doing it.

if rivera isn't a guy that messes around, then you have to assume that he really means that naanee was brought in because he didn't like what he was seeing from them. he and chud decided to go with a more proven commodity, which for rivera and chud, would be naanee.

you could say the same thing about shockey as well. chud knows him and what he's capable of, even though it's been a while since they've worked together.

Gettis and Lafell were unproven last year. Many people thought Gettis would be cut, just like Pilares now. We aren't cutting our 5th rounder. We never have.
we do lots of things that we've never done before in trying to get better.

moving a 5th rounder to the PS isn't something that we've never done before. we've done it with people drafted earlier in their rookie season.

Ever since Hurney has been GM, out of rookies drafted from the 1st to 5th rounds, we only put 2 on the PS and that was Ben Emanuel (6 years ago) and Nate Salley (5 years ago). I don't see Pilares anywhere near the talentless level as those two.

Maybe Rivera believes Barnidge was the best talent of last year and that's why he's still here?

I think some hybrid guys at LB/DE like Norwood and some o-line guys that can play multiple spots will end up saving us some roster spots. We need WR's bad, they aren't going to let go of someone that's showing promise.

Forgot about Norwood. So I think Wilson has the highest chance of getting cut and put on PS than Pilares.

Everybody keeps talking about Clowney, but I think Wright is a better WR and special team guy. He was probably one of the best ST guys on the team last year before he got hurt. Hasn't he been running WR2 with the 1's while Gettis and Lafell have been out?

Anyways, what I think it comes down to is if they trust Shockey to stay healthy. If that is a yes, Barndige is gone. If not, Sutton is gone. Of course, that is unless one of the fringe WR goes crazy during the preseason and they just can't cut him. Then both may go.

I agree! I say Wallace makes the team before Clowney.

    • This.  He knows where the seam is about to open, cuts, and accelerates hard. He’s slippery and tacklers always seem to be taking awkward angles to get to him. No dancing. Runs low and powerful. Almost never goes backwards for a loss. We’ve rarely had the guy who bounces off of tacklers. It’s nice seeing another one.
    • I can't speak for others but yes I read it. The conclusions are based heavily around the use of the statistical metric DYAR created by football outsiders and used by ESPN for this article. It only includes players whose production began in 2000. But excluding HOF running backs who produced BIG in an iteration of the NFL that was not yet catered to making things much easier for offenses in order for them to prop up more recent candidates is rather absurd and seems like just playing favorites regardless of where one might fall on their opinion of the use of the metric in question.
