This is what a real coney looks like, FWIW.

I'd take a southern dog over a Coney any day. When I first moved up here, I was determined to go to Coney Island to try one of their dogs. Needless to say, they blew. Now I love buying Nathans in the store but from Nathans on CI are pretty horrible in comparison to a southern dog. BTW, the processed liquid cheese might as well be vomit. I assume you havent really been to Coney Island, or just have really bad taste.

I never said anything about a "coney island" that's just NY garbage. The picture I posted is of a Cincinnati style cheese coney, in case you're unfamiliar it is covered with freshly shredded cheddar cheese, not cheese sauce. The chili is also unique to Cincinnati, it's been imitated by NY, Chicago, etc with little success.

BTW, they destroy your "southern dogs" You guys need to stick to your Carolina BBQ, leave the coneys to us.

Not a huge fan of Cincinnati chili....prefer Texas Style Chili myself.

But, Cinncinati chili will do in a pinch.

But, screw dogs.....Brats are where it is at.

Thanks boo & Salty, really appreciate the pics...

The best chili ever is the White Chili from my kitchen...

Here, this should end the coney debate...

Coney Island hot dog (also Coney dog or Coney) refers to a natural casing beef hot dog, topped with an all-meat beanless chili, and diced or chopped white onions with one or two strips of yellow mustard. The variety is a fixture in Jackson, Flint, Detroit, and southeastern Michigan.[1] Despite the name, the "Coney Island" preparation style has little direct association with Coney Island, New York itself, beyond a recognition of the birthplace of the original hot dog.[1]

Italian sausage with peppers & onions > hot dogs, Coney dogs, brats, all Johnsonville and NY hots...

i would say cincinati chili is a ripoff of meatsauce spaghetti. Nothing at all special about it, I have had it at a restaurant claiming the owners are from cincy, but give me texas chili. There is a place up here called Daisy Mayes thats does a chipotle sirloin steak chili, no beans or ground beef pretty solid. Of course, I'd put my chili, ribs or Q up against anybody's.

Why are the "coneys" if they aren't referencing "coney island?"

Oh, and our southern dogs beat any of them hands down. What's unique about Cincy chili? Does it have beans?

The only thing Cincinnati chili has in common with bolognese sauce(aka meat-sauce) is they both have ground beef and garlic, that's it. It sounds like the restaurant you went to had no clue how to make Cincinnati chili(it has cinnamon, cloves and ginger).

You also need to use a very mild frank, I prefer 'Hebrew National' as it suits my Jewish customers and lets the spice of the chili shine through.

I honestly cannot remember someone at my restaurant trying a Cincy Coney for the first time and not raving about it.

Cincinnati cheese coneys are quite different from NY Coney Islands. The NY dogs are heavily spiced, have natural caseing, Cinci dogs are very mild without casings. The NY buns are usually heavy and baked with poppy seeds, Cinci buns are very light and steamed. The NY chili is very bland and is more like a condiment, Cincinnati chili has more meat and spice. NYers also go on the cheap when it comes to the cheese. In short NY style is more about the frank, than the total of the coney.

There are no beans in Cincinnati chili, although some people prefer kidney beans making their 4-way a 5-way(Spaghetti, chili, onion, beans and cheese) Personally I don't like beans in Cincinnati chili, save them for Texas chili.

Na i dont doubt it, you just need to have a hard time. The Cincy chili was served over spaghetti, is that most common? I still prefer Nathans over Hewbrew Nat tho.
