beason might not be ready for week 1...

Recommended Posts

---Rivera is growing more concerned about whether middle linebacker Jon Beason will be ready for the opening game at Arizona. Beason, who has never missed a regular season game, has yet to practice due to tendinitis in his left Achilles. Rivera said the Panthers have three other linebackers who can play the position if Beason is not ready - Dan Conner, Omar Gaither, and Thomas Williams.

"But we'll make that decision once we get to that week," Rivera said.

on a surprise note, it looks like stewart is practicing even tho rivera said he would be held out.

I think we need to be prepared to see him listed as Questionable for the first few games of the regular season. At some point he will have to decide if/when he should play through the pain.

if stewart can do it, i would be surprised if beason didn't.

both are beasts.

it wouldn't be the first time beason played with an injury.

shaping up to be a rough early season, but that was to be expected (albeit for different reasons). injuries bite us every year, at least with beason it hit a position we at least have a decent backup in, and at least it isn't so serious he's out for extended time in the regular season yet.

I wouldn't call Connor a scrub but like Greensboro said he can't cover the field the same way Beason can. I feel like this has to be pretty painful because Beason doesnt strike me as the type of player who sits out for nothing.

:iagree: but Connor doesn't look like the same player from last year, slower and losing containment in his lane , which scares me

    • This team has a rich history of great linebackers.  Is a high standard to hold anybody to.  Take the fact, that the NFL has been prioritizing other positions over linebacker, adds to this also.  The fact that our drafts have been offensive heavy for awhile now, also adds to it.   As a fan of great defenses, I  am definitely not satisfied with the trend that has been happening.  While Morgan is a retired linebacker, it's not like he hasn't had other priorities in the 2 years he's been in control.  We also lost a good starter from last season, that we weren't expecting to lose.  Not making excuses, just observation.  At this point, it is what it is for this season, whether we like it or not.
    • Well I have never claimed anything he did was due to bad players on the other side.  On the flip side, people defend him on the regular with saying it isn’t his fault because his teammates are bad. The coaching, the other players, tell me I am lying.  Hmm.  Edit I am going to caveat that first thing. I for sure claimed you could not use college as a direct comparison to the NFL, because the NFL is another level entirely. So it does discount the opposition, in that context.  But once you have NFL results, no.
    • It's amazing how they started getting more pressure when they used the young pass rushers more instead of the Vikings rethreads
